THE BATTLE OF FERRYBRIDGE
March 26th, 1461. After a hard retreat north, the forces of Lancaster are now prepared to turn the tides upon the Yorkist forces. To this end, an army under the command of John Clifford, 9th Baron de Clifford and 9th Baron of Skipton ar stationed at Ferrybridge. Clifford has a sole objective, defend Ferrybridge, the only stone bridge for many miles, and the small crossing at Castleford. The Lancastrian army burned the countryside and the bridges over the River Aire during their retreat north, and while John Clifford fights a holding action at Ferrybridge and Castleford, the Lancastrian forces move into position to fight perhaps the greatest battle of the war so far...
