Default Rougemont Castle, the Holland Estates

ROUGEMONT CASTLE, SEAT OF THE DUKE OF EXETER

Built within the Roman wall of Exeter itself by William the Conqueror, this castle of blood-coloured stone has seen better days, but is still a prominent obstacle for any would be attacker. Its prime location within the city walls allow the Duke of Exeter to exert a good deal of authority upon the city, despite it being officially independent from its rule. It has served as the headquarters of the Holland family since their rise to prominence, and it is from here that the Holland estates are administered by the current Duke, Henry Holland. While it is the official seat of the Duke due to its strategic location, it is by no means his favoured castle, resulting in its defences being largely neglected.

The Holland estates were once the greatest in England, although the divided inheritance of the last Earl of Kent robbed the Hollands of their formerly far-reaching influence. The family does still however hold bountiful estates in Devonshire, Kent, Huntingdonshire and Lancashire, making the Duke of Exeter one of the more prominent nobles of England. The Holland family is, for the moment, declared for Lancaster, partly due to the familial connection between Henry Holland and King Henry VI of Lancaster.

    Provincial bonuses:

    Exeter:

    Isca's Walls:
Over a thousand years ago Exeter was a Romano-British town called Isca Dumnoniorum, and the seat of the petty-kings of Dumnonia. Much of its walls were preserved past the disintegration of Roman authority in Britain and later formed the core of the city's medieval defenses, including Rougemont Castle which was built into the northwestern section of the old walls. +4 Siege rolls, -4 Raid rolls.

    Aqueducts:
A complex system of aqueducts, some of which lies underground, supplies Exeter's citizens with fresh water from the nearby parish of Saint Sidwell's. If besieged, Exeter can hold out for an additional 3 days.
Exeter Cathedral: Since 1400, Exeter's residents can be proud of their fully finished cathedral. Though this particular house of God might pale before the glory of Canterbury or the nearly-complete York Minster, it is still an impressive sight in its own right and is a commanding seat for the Bishop of Exeter. +5% income, +1 Charisma, +1 levy and taxation rolls, and characters may also seek refuge within the Cathedral for up to 1 in-game year; unless permitted by the local religious authorities, anyone who would do harm unto them on its consecrated ground will certainly have to face some consequences at the Church's hands.

The People of Exeter: Exeter's people have a history of defying overlords they deemed tyrannical, going back to 1068 when the city mobilized in support of Gytha Thorkilsdottir (mother of Harold Godwinson and his brothers) and shut its gates to William the Conqueror; even after he forced their capitulation, he dared not raise taxes or impose any serious punishment on the townsfolk, nor was he able to arrest Thorkilsdottir. d2*d1000 Militia (75% Militia Longbows, 25% Militia Footmen) will spawn when the city comes under attack unless its people happen to actually like the attacker more than its present controller and are confident that they won't sack the place upon victory.

A small golden coffer is being brought by a small group of riders. The riders asked the coffer to be handed over to Henry Holland. The coffer itself contained a red rose alongside a letter.

    Letter
To Lord Holland, Duke of Exeter, from the Queen of England.

Lord Holland, i bid everything goes well with you? I have written this letter to ensure your support of restoring King Henry to its rightful throne. The French and Scottish are supporting us in this endeavor, we are hoping you will aid us in restoring our king to his throne.

We are willing to grant title's and lands to those who support us in our fight against the usurpers. We hope you will fly the Red banners of Lancaster upon our arrival in England.

    Marguerite d'Anjou, Queen of England.

Several agents try to approach Lord Holland's army that has just barely departed from Huntingdon. One of them identified as Richard Holmes tries to request for an audience, he says it is an important case.

Richard Holmes bowed before Lord Holland

I am representative of Lady Queen Margaret. She has asked me to approach you.

Richard still bows as a sign of respect

Lady Margaret wants to secure Holland support for the upcoming storm that is to come, she knows this comes at a price, therefore she offers the Estates of Surrey, Kent and sussex and many important title's for your support along with your existing title's

She also assures that a situation like a house arrest will never happen again with her in charge, afterall men of high nobility should never have to endure such a situation.

ooc : i'm assuming the house arrest would be know publicly and if it is not then just ignore the last

"The army of King Edward is vast, and he is my brother by marriage. I enjoy a position of great pre-eminence in the kingdom, and will surely be rewarded after the Lancastrians are defeated. Why should I compromise that by joining your Queen's doomed cause?"

Because you are Lancastrian by blood and that blood will never fade, because your are related to the Lancastrians through John of Gaunt's daughter.

Richard became more nervous, he was sure Lord Beaufort wouldn't like the prime position going to Lord Holland

And because Lady Margaret offers you the leading position under King Henry's rule, do you think you will get that under the rule of that Usurper? De Mowbray who controls Edward will hold you undoubtedly in check, i'm sure he will try to limit your powers as soon as possible.

"The Queen is in bed with Beaufort, so you spew more lies." Holland replied angrily, looking down from atop his horse at the messenger. "Return to your queen and tell her to prepare for battle, rather than courting me."

She does no longer after what happened Towton, no longer, lady Margaret has been most displeased at his actions in Towton so that is no longer more the case.

Margaret was very displeased indeed with his performance but she still liked him, not that Lord Holland should know this. Richard bowed

Eh if that is your wish then i shall tell her but you must remember about this offer, you have the opportunity to become the most influential man in the realm..

"I will consider your offer, emissary. Now, begone." Waving the man away, Holland began giving his commanders orders to move out.
