Is there a good way to extract unit from battle line without getting it destroyed in the process. Does moving another unit in line with attack order before have the other unit leave the line, is that the way to do it.. Any ideas are welcome.

Pretty much, try to get the reserves manually in front of the fighting unit if you can as well.
Vespasian's own: Up the Augusta! For Cato!

Thanks for reply. Maybe give "halt or some order where it doesn't try to advance" to the unit being extracted while the reserve unit is moving in with an attack order. Any other Ideas will be appreciated. ps Watched all the Ancient Empire battle videos, learned a lot. Very informative.

I always throw another unit into attack, then pull out the existing one, that seems to be the only way to do it without causing them to route. They route because they always turn around and thus get immediately attacked from behind and take large casualties.
AE Dev, mainly units
Saw a video Ancient Empires where a unit was told to charge the enemy unit through one of his own units. You could see the troops going through the other unit to get to the enemy, so he then ordered the unit at the front to move backwards to a new position. The unit retreating didn't lose very many troops at all. So therefore the way to retreat a unit is to attack with one before retreating the other one, it does work.
Saw video where the front line troops were told to retreat, and the second line was to far back to give good cover for front line. Anyway he had his troops second line spread out so troops front line could pass threw. Of course the enemy line was right on the tail of the front line, killing all the way before they hit the second line. I believe he would have done much better on loses if he had had his second line attack and hit the enemy line and then told the front line to retreat. Seems to be a lot less loses when you do it that way.
