BUY THE GAME!!!!!!!
This is the greatest game in the world.
The passive ai was something the ai acted very simple and didnt like to engage, the patch has 100% fixed that...This game is without a doubt a masterpiece!!!
EDIT: By the way I have about the same kind of computer stats as you, I also have 1.7 ghz processor, 512 mb of ram, and the game works awesome I just have to keep settings relatively low,
also you have a much better graphics card than I do, so it should run even better on yours.

I actually have something quite similar. Just tone down the settings and it should run just fine. Though I must say, I ordered some new hardware to make it look better.
I do have just one problem do to my low memory, err it is recommended in the install to have at least 1 gb of ram...
After I play mtw2 for a few hours say, I quit the game, then on my desktop it sais "warning virtual memory system is low"...
This isn't hazardous or anything and my game runs really smooth still, but it gets to me a bit, I know I need to install more memory.
This used to happen when I would have more than 6 rome mods on my computer, cause 6 full conversion mods for rome like RTR and darthmod, chivalry, would equal the size of mtw2 just about.
Hi Megon, be very cautious of fanboys here, critical thinking is not part of their modus vivendus.
A month ago I would have said hold off on buying the game, it was nearly unplayable, but now, with the first patch and the mods that have come out it is worth your money and quite enjoyable to play. There will be another patch coming within 2 to 3 months, which will hopefully make other marked improvements. Better yet, if you hold off till after Christmas, the price will have dropped and you will have invested well. It is a must to use the patch, though. Hope you enjoy the game.

don't expect price to go down anytime soon...
Oh megon also beware of the haters on here... they just can't seem to be happy like us fanboys lol
I'd steer well clear until at least the third or forth patch. The game is still pretty much unplayable.
yes as I said still things missy wrong etc but they are small and the game is very much playable. Sure there are some issues but i mean the 2h issue, just dont buy 2h simple as that. most of the things that are wrong you can avoid or get round so just play enjoy tbh
The AI doensn't know how to attack properly. Their stacks get stuck on the campaign map, and then attack randomly with a boat blockading one of my ports. They attack useless regions and ignore the important ones. They declare war when they're hugely outnumbered with absolutely no chance of winning. You besiege their last settlement and try and ask for peace, and they demand 20000 florins when you're 1 turn away from destroying their faction.
When they do actually try and initiate a battle, they don't do any fighting a lot of the time. They just sit there and wait for the timer to deplete or let you shoot them at range without doing anything. This was supposed to be fixed, but if anything it seems worse after the patch. They build stacks that consist mostly of siege weapons, or entire stacks of crossbowmen. A big bunch of the units don't actually work at all. The difficulty levels are a joke, with even the hardest being far too easy.
I kind of expected the AI to be able to wage war in a game called total war, but obviously I was wrong.
It feels like a car without an engine.
Yes and the 2h issue is well moded by several members. I wouldn't be surprised if a mod with even better 2h animations comes around before the second patch.

Game Company are destroying games, they release game in beta version then patch it. in the old day's you usally get full game dont need much patching.

Unfortunately that laptop falls well short of the minimum requirements. You need a dedicated 128mb graphics card. That laptop has a built in graphics chip which uses system memory, and doesn't have any of it's own. The processor is under spec too.
Minimum System Requirements: English version of Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP.
Celeron 1.8GHz Pentium 4® (1500MHz) or equivalent AMD® processor.
512MB RAM.
8x Speed DVD-ROM drive (1200KB/sec sustained transfer rate) and latest drivers.
11.0 Gigs of uncompressed free hard disk space.
100% DirectX® 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card and latest drivers.
100% Windows® 2000/XP compatible mouse, keyboard and latest drivers.
DirectX® 9.0c.
128MB Hardware Accelerated video card with Shader 1 support and the latest drivers.
Must be 100% DirectX® 9.0c compatible.
Monitor must be able to display 1024x768 resolution or above
Before the game came out in Australia, my friend in Canada was telling me how great it was and how I should get it when it was released down under (I think it was a one day difference) Anyway I decided not to get it when it was released but I still visited the totalwar site to gather info on the game.
What made me decide to get the game was after reading reviews and looking at screenshots to see if this was the game for me and it turns out it was. After playing for a few weeks say must admit it was money well spent because the hours of entertainment it has given me. (It probably took me longer than some to get angry at passive a.i. and such)
