Sound Effects Missing + Inexplicable CTD's
Hello. I'm going to just dive right into it.
I'm running a Windows 10 (legit) build. I recently installed SS 6.4 on my Steam version of M2TW, w/o any submods. I also installed TATW 3.2, with a submod that runs flawlessly.. but back back to SS and some background info.
1. The only way I was able to get SS to run was by changing its folder's name to "Americas", and changing the "Americas" mod name to "Americas_1"
2. Every time I boot up SS via the Americas campaign through steam, it crashes to desktop on the quote loading screen.
2a. However, on the second boot-up, everything loads fine...
3. Whenever I hit "Continue Campaign", or load my most recent save, there is yet another CTD.
3a. But again, when I load it up a second time and hit "Continue Campaign" or load my most recent save, everything is fine.
And now the meat of my problem: during the campaign, there are almost no sound effects present. All that plays are the voices of generals or music. When I click tiles - nada. During battles, it is even worse. The only sound effects are of my units dying, and these can only be heard when I zoom all the way down to the battle. Otherwise, all I hear are my general's voice, the music, and charges. Now, I've tried going into the sounds folder, which can be found in ...mods/SS6.3/data/sounds and I deleted all the files in there that aren't in folders. I read somewhere that this could help. It hasn't helped for me.
Lastly... The turn times are about four minutes a turn at this point. I'm up to turn 50 or 60 in my French campaign. Could this be due to my OS, and the age of the game? I recall on previous installs of SS, turn times were long but they were certainly not four minutes long.
Where have all my sound effects gone? Why does the game CTD on attempt 1 but not attempt 2? And the turn times?! Any information would be VASTLY appreciated! Thanks!
