    Default Egyptians and Mongols

I was playing as the Egyptians (so far my favourite faction) and I was doing excellent until the Mongols came. I was the most wealthiest, I caused the failure of two Crusades (one against Jerusalem and the other against Antioch), I managed to keep the peace with the Turks and began to expand into Moorish lands in North Africa.

But then, the dreaded Mongols came. They stole my spot of being the richest faction, and they began to plow away at the Turks and eventually came to Edessa.

They are mighty, indeed, and I don't see how ANYONE could possibly beat the Mongols, especially how they have so many stacks of armies that move together.

    Any help?

I havn't gotten to Egypt's late game units, but spam hordes of Mamluk Archers, and Mamluks. Most of the stack should be the archer varient with a few melee ones and a general of course. Call a Jihad at some random target and let your Mamluk armies join, they will be able to outmanevuer the Mongols on the campaign map so you can get number advantages. Jihads also give your troops more morale correct? Anyway, before you send them into battle get the best weapon and armor upgrades you can.

I have beaten them finnally after restaring my campaign as The Turks for 6 times and i have beaten also The Timurids. What you have to do is fullstack your buildings. Only way to beat The mongols is by defencing in a city with balista towers or bombard. At first ride out with :wub:s cavalry stop there ram then retreat back. Then retreat they will forget there ram and load up in there towers and thats exactly what you want since you have a full stack on the walls. This way you can crush the mongols. If you beat them around 5 times at cities then move your remaining armies outside of your cities and chase after them. I don't believe anyone who says who has beaten The mongols on a openfield.

I'm playing the Turks, current standard armies:

    4 Turkish archers,
    4 Sipahi
    4 Saracen inf
    3 Hellbardiers
    2 Jannissary heavy inf
    2 Armenian cav/equivalent
    General

    Just remember:
    1. In an archery match their terrifying experience doesn't amount to much
    2. Their inf is crap in a melee

Which leaves their lancers as their deceisive weapon. The above army is far from perfect for Mongols and I'm increasing the ratio of missile troops to get a bigger advantage now but it manages to hold itself in a missile match against a Mongol stack while having infantry reserves that can deliver a deceisive charge and kill heavy cavalry. The losses are high but as the Turks I only have to defend Konstantinople, the rest of my armies are free to challenge the Mongols whereever they seem to make too much progress.

So far defeated two stacks of Mongols, at both times my army had to withdraw to be reeinforced but my main goal is to wittle down their veteran troops. It's obviously also helpful they are taking it out on the Egyptians which allows me to come to their rescue with little risk to my territory.

I think all Muslim faction have missile troops capable of competing with the Mongols, at that point the importance is too keep strategic superiority by deny them provinces where to get money and new soldiers from(thus maintaining superiority in numbers by easily rebuilding armies that have seen action). this is the whole reason I assisst Egypt so much, I won't allow them to establish a safe kingdom without having killed most of their veteran troops.

If the Mongols had attacked me instead of Egypt I also would have resorted to the fortification tactic, Bagdad, Mossul, Yerevan and tiflis were reinforced just for that purpose...

    edit:
Just realized that Osman infantry has 9 missile attack instead of 7!!! Given that my Turkish archers already competed with the Mongols those guys should be interesting (Jannissary archers still await to come though I probably have production problems to introduce them in my eastern battlefields).

btw: Checking why the Mongols soared past my military might I found that all their starting armies cost no upkeep so destroying them should really bring them down to earthly levels as they have to pay just like anyone else for any new units.

"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "
