Default MAARC LXVI - Submissions/Nominations Thread

This is the submission/nomination thread for MAARC LXVI!
Please read the rules carefully - we changed them for MAARC LXV onwards.

    Changes to competition rules

    • Previously, 5 entries were needed to run a normal competition. Now, 6 entries are needed. If you see an AAR or story which deserves recognition, please encourage the writer to enter the MAARC (for AARs) or MCWC (for creative writing).
    • We have brought the entry requirements of the MCWC in-line with the MAARC, so now to enter the MCWC you need to have two updates within the submission period instead of having two updates as well as a word count requirement.
    • Previously, our rules on advertising were a bit complicated and they imposed a blanket penalty of a 3-month disqualification. Now, our rules are simpler and the disqualification is at the discretion of Content Staff, which allows for fairer, more proportionate responses to any breach of the rules.·
    • Under the previous rules, stories which were previously published offsite before being posted on TWC were not eligible for our competitions. Now, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements, they can enter.
    • If you have any questions or feedback on these new rules please post in the Chat thread and let us know.

    Eligibility

    • You can only enter work that is posted on TWC.
    • The submission must have at least two new updates within the submission period: August 29 onwards
    • The first place winner of the previous competition cannot compete in the next one.
    • Only one entry per person.
    • Once the submission period has ended there will be a one week poll to decide the winners.
    • If there are fewer than six entries in the month after the submission period begins, the submission period is extended for one week, followed by a poll with reduced rewards. If there are fewer than three entries the submission period remains open until at least three entries have been submitted.
    • Authors can, and are encouraged to, submit their own work. If you would like to nominate someone else's work, please ask for the author's approval first (or encourage the author to nominate it themselves!).
    • Writers' Study Staff have discretion to disqualify nominations where it would be unfair to allow them to enter, for example in cases of plagiarism.
    • If you have a question or want to check whether an entry is eligible, please send a private message to a member of the Writers' Study Staff.

    Information to provide

    • Title and link to the thread
    • Author
    • Short description/teaser
    • Game, mod and faction (if applicable)

    Advertisement Rules

    • Advertising of the competitions is allowed, for example "please vote in the MAARC", however any kind of direct advertising to advocate nominees is prohibited.
    • Breaking these rules will result in measures being taken at the discretion of the Writers' Study Staff.
    • The competition manager will take whatever steps necessary to insure the integrity of the competition.
    • Asking for votes via any method is not allowed and will result in an immediate disqualification.

    Awards

    • 4 points for the Winner
    • 3 points for Second Place
    • 2 points for Third Place

If the competition has less than six entries then first place will receive three points and second place will receive two. Points are recorded in the Hall of Fame. They are accumulated towards the awarding of the Writers' Study Competition Medals.

    • 6 points - bronze medal
    • 12 points - silver medal
    • 24 points - gold medal

    For Honor or for Glory?

A Shogun II AAR about the Tokugawa

Abe Sadayoshi has been fighting almost constantly for the last five years for his lord Tokugawa Hirotada: first against the ambitious Oda clan and their allies, then in rebellion against their Imagawa overlords. Now he holds the Tokugawa Western front while his daimyo Hirotada campaigns with the Takeda in the east. Left to his own devices he has fought powerful neighboring clans such as the Saika facing invasions by sea and in the dead of winter, and now a new threat has arisen: the powerful Asano clan is reportedly preparing to attack! Even worse, the Ikko-Ikki rebels are beginning to overrun their allies' lands...

From straightforward pitched battles to dubious ambushes, sedentary to rapacious lords, this AAR tests Sadayoshi and Hirotada as they try to decide how to move forward while balancing reputation, the well-being of the clan, ambition, and their senses of honor and duty, and the heavy costs these things entail.

    The Fall of Vienna
A Total War Attila Visigoths AAR

Rome is dying. The Empire burns, beset by rebellion and invasion. After fighting a long and brutal guerrilla war against the Empire, the Visigoths have finally sacked Rome. Engorged with riches, they seek a new home and the region of Septimania in Southern Gaul provides a tempting home. Wealth and riches flow through the port cities and a life of easy living on the coasts is attractive after decades on the move. Like a bolt of lightning they seize the two ports in the south but to consolidate the new Visigothic Kingdom, they must deal with the small northern kingdom of Septimania. A newly independent kingdom, Septimania is a small force based out of the city of Vienna. As thousands of Goths march north in the cold of winter, it is up to Flavius Calpernius Merenda, commander of Septimania's army to try to save his homeland.
