It is clearly the Holy Roman Empire, and the main thing I spot here is that he is attempting to go for the lands ever conquered by Germans, you can see south-eastern France, the fork forming at Poland, as was in the time of the German Empire as well as Hungary and the usual Austrian Empire expansion.

Explanation

Believe it or not, I was actually playing very passive in this. Apart from Austria and Rheims, all of my conquests were from rebels. I allied Denmark, Pope, Hungary, Venice and England, fully intending to take that side when they go to war and blitzkrieg (aptly) france. However France decided it wanted to attack me with a subpar force, I repelled it and built a stack in Metz. Milan quickly followed. Then the vikings declared war (their ally) on me to block my port and Hungary betrayed me, I took my forces around the area and took their capital. Oh and Venice also betrayed me. But they haven't made their mark. I have played this campaign, with emphasis on my roads and finances, as my major weakness last time was lack of mobility. I did employ scorched earth on Cairo. So guys, I'd like some feedback, do I keep on making these too obvious? What should I do to make it more interesting? Is it unfair me doing this consecutively? Do you want me to do more?

The problem with vanilla is that it is very easy and the AI is fairly passive at the start so in most cases it's quite clear who you're playing as after a few turns. I always look to have a few other factions as reasonable options, if that isn't the case at turn 50 then I wait a bit. Mods generally result in harder and more interesting maps. I often play campaigns just for this "who am I" game so I do keep it in mind not to expand too much. I'm generally a slow expander though, I like to consolidate a bit too much perhaps, so that's usually not a problem. The best you can do is hope a few other factions do well too.
