Default Possible to Remove Reinforcement Mechanic?

As the title says I would really like to remove the option for armies to reinforce each other. I have a feeling this is hard-coded and not a modifiable issue but just in case anyone has come upon anything that might help thougth I would ask.

The idea would be that battles are always 1 stack vs 1 stack. If you have multiple stacks around you first would be sent in to soften them up, then your reinforcements go in and finish the job. Its basically the same system as now but removes the terrible arrival positions, the fact that the ai always just waits for its reinforcements anyway, helps with fps issues once al reinforcements have arrived and also makes army composition a much more important thing, especially when considering sieges (where you will literally have waves of armies going in).

Anyway yea, I expect as a core mechanic is hidden away in the code, but figured I would ask anyway as I've always hated how TW deals with reinforcing armies.

There is a value for reinforcement range which can be edited. You'll also want to edit the values on lightning strike which increase reinforcement range.

I imagine if you set those to 0 then the only times you'll fight multiple stacks are in settlement battles where the defender has an army garrisoned already, and in quest battles, which would have their reinforcements pre-scripted.

I was just playing around some with those reinforcement range values. It doesn't look promising.

Having re-read your post, there might be an alternative solution. You specifically want 1v1 battles. There are also values for the max number of armies per side for certain maps. It may be possible to limit at least some maps to 1v1, in particular the provincial capitals.

Still haven't tried limiting specific siege battles to 1v1, though I'm confident that you would capture the settlement after the first battle, and I suspect any non-garrisoned reinforcing armies would scatter as if they had been defeated.

I had some success with setting zone of control to 0. This functions the same as vanilla, except to drastically reduce the reinforcement range. However, you can still overlap friendly zones of control, which will still yield reinforcements.

A combination of setting the reinforcement radius to 0 and the zone of control to 0 might be slightly more effective.
