Default Game Freezes in Battles both in regular and in Mods

I have been having this problem for years and wanted to try and find a solution. I have been playing Medieval 2 and the mods in compatibility mode of windows xp service pack 3 and have everything else turned off in the background. I also have Windows 7 but everytime I get into the battle the game crashes. Is there a way to fix this. For example I am playing Broken Crescent and right when I get into a battle the game crashes. Any advice I would really appreciate.

Can you generate a log file for us to look at?

In your main M2TW directory, or in any mod folder, you will find a .cfg file. Read the first few lines of this thread and set up your .cfg to give us a trace level log. Play the game again, and once you experience the crash, hopefully a hint as to why will be saved in the log (which you can find in a logs folder that will generate in your M2TW directory).

Once you've got the log (a .txt file that could be as big as 4mb), compress it (using a program like 7-Zip) and upload it here.

Have you unpacked the main game?
