Default Can't Make My Own Mod Work (Steam MTW2 Kingdoms)

In the title lads. I've made my own mod (called "mymod") and I just want to make some tweaks to the game without altering the actual data file. The mod I made only involves text tweaks, notably changing the EDU and EDB (for Venetian Archers armour workaround and personally swapping the skin for Byzantine Lancers/Byzantine Infantry). I have placed mymod in the Medieval II/mods folder, alongside the expansion packs. I have also enabled the mod via the Steam Launcher (--features.mod=mods/mymod).

This is the problem; when I launch the game with my mod, the game runs but there is like no sound, bar the ambient background game sound (which is weird). Moreover, the campaign and historical battles are missing when I try to select them.

I honestly have no idea why the mod doesn't work; this was never a problem before I decided to get the game on Steam (regretting that decision now to be honest).

    Any ideas?

Use my Bare Geomod set up (it's the default Grand Campaign mod set up with a ton of fixes) and copy your changed files into it. You can start it directly via it's desktop short cut - else enable it in the launcher.

Why would you want to play historical battles with your set up? It's all fixed stuff, your changes will have not effect on it other then possible EDU stat changes. If you really want to do it then you need to copy the the [M2TW default installation]\data\world\maps\battle\customs folder into the ...\battle folder of BG. Skip the multiplayer battle set up folder with the numerical prefixes.

Eh? I have only edited the edu/edb files, yet the game seems to be adversely affected. I dunno if I'm omitting something when it comes to the mod (I have IO FILE FIRST, MYMOD.CFG etc).....

Your mod is very likely missing some vital files\folders, like the data\sounds stuff - hence no sound***. Simply install BG (13MB) and have a look, then add your files and check again if it works. Last not least copy the historical battles folders.

Another issue could be the virtual store - have you run this tutorial before? If not start at step three and then at the end delete the M2TW folder in the virtual store should it exist.

*** - if your mod has no data\sounds folder then the first run will generate one, but with dat\idx files that have no reference and thus no sound will play.

That's... weird. Why do I need to copy files over? Surely the game recognises the vanilla folder?

Never had this problem with RTW1 files (same engine) =/

While RTW1 may be the same engine it's not the same version. In fact a number of things are obsolete in M2TW (eg the 'lookup' files) while other stuff has been added (eg 'religion').

It is unclear why, but some folders that are unpacked in the default installation (and their content) are not recognized by the mod set up, the sound and world folders are the main issues - exactly what you are having issues with.
