Somewhere north of Winterfell...(I suck at roleplaying in case you hadn't noticed, especially since it's been so long since I read ADWD.)
Ondrew Locke awoke to cold winds and colder breakfast. He pushed the gruel aside and focused his attention on the map laid out in front of him. There was nothing to see outside anyway, except for the snow. He had only a faint idea of where exactly they were, but nonetheless he would press on, for Lord Manderly's sake whom last he seen was struggling to cling to this world, even under the watchful eye of the Maester.
He had separated from their host 3 days past. Despite Manderly and his men being far from Winterfell now, all was not done. They had marched on Stannis yes, just as Roose had ordered. However no blood was spilled when they made their approach. Now Ondrew was marching to spill the blood of those not 4 days ago he had called "allies" or maybe they will spill mine. A chill went through Ondrew then, filling him with dread This wretched cold. He didn't notice the man at arms who had entered and was now standing at the entrance to the tent, behind him the world was white.
"M'lord, sorry to disturb. There has been a rider. Well.....a few riders" he spoke in a gruff voice.
Ondrew didn't bother to look up. He lost most his teeth a long time ago, it was a struggle to talk, nowadays he rarely bothered. He glanced through the latest reports from the scouts he had sent out last night. He hadn't expected them to return. Ludd Whitehill, that's a man I don't want to deal with. The Whitehills of Highpoint had always been staunch friends of The Dreadfort, and had a bitter rivalry with the Forresters of Ironrath. They were as cruel as the Boltons themselves, or they tried to be. He doubted they would make his journey easy, when the time came. He looked up and nodded.
"Not Stannis this time M'lord. It's just, they came from Castle Black and found us by chance. The princess Shireen is with them."
Ondrew thought he misheard, why would they be south? it's not safe, especially for a child war and blood was the north now. That's all it would be until this farce was over. "Send them in..." he murmured.
"That's not all. The Lord Commander is dead..."
