Need help with GC Hotseat!

Hey all, made an account just to post this and I apologize if this information is already somewhere else but things are so hard to find on these forums because some of the info is old and out of date.

Anyways, I'm trying to set up the vanilla grand campaign with hotseat but I'm struggling. I've tried editing the medieval2.preference file with the lines of text that activate hotseat but I've discovered this does not work with the updated steam version. I've also tried using the retrofit mod but nothing seems to work. Whenever I try running the mod it cannot find the kingdoms.exe in order to run. I've also tried copying the medieval2.exe and renaming it kingdoms.exe which supposedly works but still nothing. If anyone knows any other way to get hotseat or even a solution to my problems with the retrofit mod please let me know.

If I have to follow one more link that leads to a 2007 thread with outdated info I'm gonna scream.

Use my Bare Geomod set up - it has got hot seat enabled. It's the Kingdoms Grand Campaign running with the kingdoms.exe (instead of medieval2.exe), therefore has the kingdoms abilities like boiling oil at the gates.
It's also Steam compatible.

Thanks for the response Gigantus! Two questions, (sorry I'm a noob at this) first: which mod am I supposed to download? the Kingdoms 2.03 or Medieval 1.11? And second: what do I need to do to access the Hotseat once I get it working? Is it in the singleplayer or does it add a button in multiplayer?

I guess you have either the steam version or the disk version with the kingdom campaigns installed - so use the kingdoms 2.03 version.
There is a multi player option that will get you to the hotseat. To get more detailed info on setting up a hotseat, head over to this forum and ask one the opening posters in one of the current hotseats (if the stickies are not clear enough).

Thanks for the help, I downloaded the mod and it seems to run fine (no CTD) but I'm still not getting an option for Hotseat. I looked through the stickies in the section you recommended and everything there is telling me that it should allow me to simply select multiple factions from the single player Grand Campaign faction select screen but that is not happening for me for some reason. I have the fully updated steam version with Kingdoms (1.52?) and I edited the preferences with the appropriate lines and even ticked "read only". Not sure what I am doing wrong so any help would be appreciated.

I GOT IT!

Sorry for the double post but I finally got the mod working. Problem was that I still had the launch settings in steam set to another mod that I had been trying before. Started it up with the new launch settings and it seems like everything is working fine. Thank you for all your help!
