Long story short I downloaded a zipped folder that turned out to have a trogan in it. I detected and deleted the trojan before I opened the zip folder. Could my computer still have suffered damage? I think I notice a slight drop in performance but that may just be paranoia.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

if zipped any virus should be inactive...i remember my brother had collection of viruses zipped in antivirus testing purposes..so you should be safe..from that one..

Also, what does this virus do? And what Anti Virus software do you have?

I use housecall and it was a generic trogan whatever that is.

Just run another full system scan, if it comes back negative and your anti virus software is up to date then you should be fine.

Also you may want to check for spyware and such with a reliable spyware detector
