Adding a spell to a unit
Solved - see below for solutions
Hi, I want to add the fireball spell to a custom cavalry unit, the grudgebringer cavalry I'm making. Ive tried a few things looking in the unit junction table but that seems to be for passive and defensive spells. So then I made the fire ball in to a missle projectile and got it where I could get the unit to use fireballs. But I had to use the rifle animation which isn't great, all my Shields disapeared and ideally I just want one fireball rather than 45. I tried to get just the custom officer to fire by himself to no avail.
Plus that route doesn't fit right, ideally I would like to add the fireball spell ability and if anyone can offer any advice, I'd be really grateful and list you as a contributor on the mod.

Fireball spell itself could be troublesome, because it's a wind-using ability and non-caster units are probably simply unable to use them.
Try instead putting in junctions the ability for the bound fireball, the one from the ring item. It could not work in campaign however, due to abilities are unlocked by character skills or in this case, items.
If that doesn't work, copy everything from one of the fireballs, taking care of killing the mana cost if it's the spell one, make a new fireball ability* and repeat the experiment.
*it's a lot-ish of tables, I know, check out any mod that adds an ability to have the list and some samples. My magic rework should give you what you need too.
(make sure of changing the ability key in unit_special_abilities)

Update
Hi worked it out with cataph help, in the unit to abilities table just use the drop down boxes and done your unit can use spells in custom and campaign map. As cataph pointed out you can't choose an item as it won't show on the campaign but if you choose the spell it will work even ones that use mana, not sure why that works. My only problem now is as my unit composes of 45 units is firing off 45 fireballs, I don't think I can work a way out to reduce it to just one.
