    Default Javelin Ranges

Hi I was looking through the stats for units in EBII and just wanted to ask some questions about the various javelins. Thanks a lot in advance, I've really enjoyed this mod and EBI before it and have had a great time learning about history and exploring the various cultures the mod features

    1. Do these represent maximum ranges or effective ranges (as in the range at which the missile would most often be used since all in game missiles are most effective at point blank range)?

2.What are the weights being used to represent these various javelins, because there doesn't seem to be much variation in the ranges of the javelins, plus the ranges seem to be a generally high if they're in meters?

    3. Also am I correct that all of these ranges are in meters?

I know that this is a bit cliched, but thanks for all the work you modders, historians, scripters, texture makers (texturerers?<-this is definitely not a word ... right?), modelers and any others that I undoubtedly missed put into this mod and this community

They're in meters, and they're essentially the maximum range of that type of projectile, being generous. They have to interact with the skirmish distance for units with that ability, creating a window in which they can load and fire, before they think they need to move off again.

If the throw distances were halved to realistic ranges, the units would melee engage before their ammunition is exhausted. My understanding, anyway.

If they were halved, skirmishers on skirmish mode would never throw their javelins.

Thanks for the response Quintus, I was just wondering what the relative weights for the various projectiles are since based on the huge variations in damage (between 4 and 22) it would follow that large differences in mass to cause the gap, but ranges seem to stay rather stable (between 70 or so meters and 55 meters). Also wasn't it sometimes an issue for troops to fire a volley before the enemy could close? I'm reasonable certain that there are accounts of roman armies skipping the pila throwing stage and just charging, I bring this up only because the range is such that I never have trouble getting of one if not two volleys before the enemy close. Also would javelins be that devastating I have no trouble taking out 10-15% of most enemy units through 2 volleys and this seems crushingly high, as in most battle lines even among extremely well trained armies would crumble under those sudden losses and this doesn't seem to fit too well with the slower paced combat. I don't mean to sound critical or contrary I genuinely want to know about these figures and where they arise from.
