Well I have a lot of books and I'm looking to bu about 3-4 more today. I got around $25 to spend and I'm hoping you guys can help me. I got the majority of the D&D realm books from Forgotten Realms/Dragonlance/Ravenloft. So I'm looking for maybe a trilogy or something that is not from those series.

    Much appreciated.

I enjoyed the Belgariad by David Eddings a lot.
    Volume 1
    Volume 2

It's actually 5 books, and there is a second "sequel" series that is 5 more books. Plus a couple of large (around 7-800 page) "spinnoffs" about 2 of the main characters in the books.

I'd advise the Belgariad as above, but no more Eddings than that except maybe Redemption of Althalus; he gets a bit samey. Tolkein's epic Lord of the Rings trilogy is a must read as the iconic, and I mean iconic, fantasy series in the heroic vein; try to get a one-volume version. Some Gemmell, Legend or Waylander maybe, would not go amiss; one of the greats, passed away earlier this year, he wrote believeable heroic fiction that sucked one in. Finally in the Fantasy vein I suggest laying your hands upon some Terry Pratcheet; Thud!, despite being one of his latest, might be a good place to start, followed by the first in that subseries of the Discworld Guards Guards, but pretty much any Discworld novel is good.

As you can maybe tell, I like fantasy...

I am aware that Ozy is not a fan of Feist, but the Riftwar saga (Magician, SIlverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon are the three that make up this particular story) are one of the best examples of this partiucular genre with a great twist or two.

He is also correct in that Eddings' initial work was excellent, but the later series were very samey - I stopped reading over the first two (Belgariad (5 books) and the Malloreon (I think, also 5 books)).

    Malloreon is five books, yes.

By my recollection, the Riftwar Saga was incredibly difficult to get in to and incredibly slow to start.... I actually couldn't finish Magician, a very rare event in terms of Fantasy books... (just thought I'd throw in my tuppence on the series)

Yes I have all of Feist's books and I love them just because it isn't the same rehashed crap I'm used to reading. I'll have to check into the Belgariad, unfortunately I got a little impatient and bought the first 3 books of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' as I was told it was something I'd enjoy a lot. As for the 'Lord of the Rings' I've already read them (before the movie) and I have read a lot of the most popular authors so I'm kind of having a more difficult time finding all the other books since it seems no one carries a whole series around here anymore.

Don't get a complete Pratchett series in one go, get them incrementally, its too expensive otherwise, I tend to find. In the case of Gemmell the series are really quite short, two to three books in general; Waylander, Waylander II and Hero in the Shadows

Song of Fire and Ice by J.R.R. Martin is a great read, 4 volumes so far, maybe 2-3 more to come
