Default A visit to Braavos(Recycled thread)

While the reconstruction of the castle of Manderford and improvement of a local village to serve as the castle town and eventual naval base of the province continues under the supervision of Ser Haegon Lowther, Lucifer's former second-in-command promoted to be captain of the guard for Manderford and the handful of architects sent from the Arbor to aid in the planning and supervision of the workers, Lucifer takes a ship to the Shield Islands, deciding to seek a wife from one of the houses of the Shields.

He sails to Greyshield first, and requests a meeting with Lord Grimm to discuss a marriage between one of the lord's daughters of female relatives and himself.

He is allowed into Greysheild to the greet hall. Lord Grimm would be found sitting in the high backed chair and looking somewhat bored. He waves for the Redwyne boy to speak.

Lucifer bows to Lord Grimm. "Lord Grimm, I have come to seek the hand of one of your daughters or female relatives in marriage. I will become the Lord of Manderford upon the completion of the restoration efforts, so your daughter or relative will be Lady of a Keep."

    Base 10/20 1-10 fails 11-20 success 15 success.

"I have a daughter 23 years old now. She is a good age for marriage." He pauses the Manderford had been a ruin for some time so the fact Redwyne was given the land means that he had some sway with Tyrell. Sway that could see his houses fortunes grow. He contemplates for only a moment longer.

"Yes I think you would be a good match for her."

Ser Monford Redwyne and a escort of twenty men at arms take a boat to Oldtown from Ryamsport, and then travel to Ashford. Upon arrival, Ser Redwyne approaches the gates to request a meeting with Lord Ashford.

Monford bows to Lord Ashford before speaking.
"My lord Ashford, I come on behalf of my mother to propose a marriage between a member of your house and my younger brother, Addam, who currently serves as Master of Ships for Lord Tyrell."

"The hostage!" said Lord Ashford, "How fares House Redwyne in Highgarden's eyes? Marrying into a pariah House might not do my own standing any good."

Monford thinks for a few moments on Ashford's question. "I would say my house's standing in the eyes of Highgarden has improved as Lord Tyrell has named my uncle the Lord of Manderford." "The true pariah house of the Reach is Rowan." he thinks to himself.

"Oh has he?" asked the Lord, "It is past time that fortress was restored. Commands the whole Mander! Fitting that a house of seafarers get it I suppose, you'll appreciate it's true purpose more."

Truly an interesting turn of events: years earlier it seemed as if the Arbor were safe from Highgarden's wrath by the grace of the water between them and the Redwyne fleet alone, but now? Granting them lands and titles? Naming a hostage to high office? A spectacular reversal of fortunes in a realm where too often those turns are for the worse.

"I've a daughter who I think would do well in the courts of Highgarden," said Lord Ashford, "and a marriage to the Master of Ships would put her in a good place. This seems agreeable, Ser Monford Redwyne."

"Yes, my lord." Monford states in response to Ashford's question about Manderford. He then nods in agreement about a house of seafarers being selected to oversee the restoration and transformation into a naval base to protect the delta of the Mander. He then smiles. "Wonderful." Monford gestures to two of his men to get Lord Ashford and himself a goblet of Arbor Gold each to celebrate the union of the two houses.
