New payday plugin is pretty legit I must say, from the 5 secs I managed to play around with it between the network being down.

It's to be expected, and atleast we still have a server now. This isn't putting a damper for me at all (mainly because Im away from home and cant play on my desktop )

Just before the server gets going, I'd like to point out that the map is just too big for the current player base. A 4000 radius map would allow for far more interaction in my opinion. And if server popularity does explode and a larger map is needed, then it can be discussed and dealt with. As things stand, it seems the server is anticipating activity which just isn't realistic.

Unless you guys really just love 25 minute journeys everywhere.

Agreed. I always have and always will favour smaller maps.

in stone halls they forge their sharp spears.
Whilst I walk alone in the mountains,
with no true companion but tears.
They hunt me with dogs in the daylight,
they hunt me with torches by night."

Aye, the map is too big for the actual amount of players.

We discussed map size before the server launch and the consensus was for a bigger map. Besides, with the new world generator, we wouldn't fit in all of the biomes in a smaller map.

We've had maps as big as 12k radii. It's big because no one know's their way around. Once roads and paths are built, it'll seem smaller. That or get in the nether.

The first map was actually 16k radius, although that was terrible, I remember sailing 45 minutes to get to Etat.

I too have always favoured smaller maps, I don't know what sparked the shift back towards larger maps when we've seen smaller maps get more activity and are far more fun.

I suspect that once the nether gets up and running and dynmap gets added things will feel smaller. It does feel a little to big right now though - not that I think a map restart would be worth the trouble. One potential solution would be to move the world border in by 2000 blocks - as far as I can tell that wouldn't affect players too much if it was done very very soon. Not sure I really buy the biome argument - nobody isn't going to play because there isn't a desert for example.

I'd like to very strongly oppose this, we are set up very close to the map boundary and would lose everything we've built so far. If people had a problem with the map size they should have aired their concerns before the map was launched imo.

Its been 26 hours... You really can't have built much.

At least - nothing that can't be replaced in 26 hours.

I do agree at this point the best solution is probably to just go with what we have though.

Fair enough, its more that we've put a fair bit into building something then for someone to just say 'Yeah just go do it again because we want to save 2 mins travel time'. Seems like a small issue really.

We could have portals at the four cardinal directions to reduce travel time if you want.
