    Default Standards/banners mod idea

    Hey all,

I'm thinking about having a go at a small mod for M2TW when I've gotten more comfortable with the unpacker, and might have to wait for the second lot of tools to be released first. However I'll share my simple idea in case anyone else fancies having a go at it.

Basically I'd want to remove the banners (which we can already do without needing a mod of course) from units and instead give them standard bearers, very much like in several Rome mods and even Rome vanilla after the reforms.

Perhaps some rabble units like peasants and militia wouldn't get standards at all, but more professional and elite units would have big impressive flowing banners.

It would also be interesting to see if the soldier carrying the banner could be tougher than your average soldier (like a captain) to represent being an elite warrior trusted with the standard, and if he dies the unit suffers a morale hit (again, like a captain). I think this would add an extra level of immersion to the game, watching a bloodied standard bearer clamber over corpses in a town square to take the settlement. Some form of elite unit for each faction might also get a 'super standard' like the Legionary First Cohort did.

    Thoughts?
Forever in your arms, you said, forever in my heart
My love for you will make us both climb higher

i toyed around with the idea myself, but the standards of the size im thinking of would require two hands to hold up.. so the standard bearer wouldnt be able to fight.

i woudlnt do the morale thing thou, and as for making the standard berarer tougher.. well now that animations matter so damn much, and the standard bearer with his flag would requite his own skeleton we could make him an eleite warrior merely by giving him slightly faster animations.
