Icon5 Odd situational campaign lag (unfortunately, situational is more often than not!)

    Hi all --

I've googled and searched for this problem and haven't found it, so I'm throwing this out for discussion.

I bought MW2 in 2010 from Direct2Drive. Have played on several computers. Never had a problem. Yesterday, downloaded again and...ultimately...got in. All is well, except the campaign map. Trying to move left to right or up or down on it is extremely slow, unless a character is actually moving on the map, in which case, it moves smoothly and like norma. However, as soon as the character arrives where they are going, the lag starts up again.

    The battles move just fine.

This, combined with the age of the game, suggests to me it's probably not a system/hardware issue. I've attempted to downgrade my graphics, with no avail...and again, the fact that it's capable of doing it sometimes suggests that's probably not my problem.

I've figured out numerous workarounds (which mainly involve cycling through agents, which is imperfect, or clicking on the minimap, also a problem), but I'd like to just be able to glide around the map with ease at all times. Is that too much to ask?

Anyone who's run into this problem, I'd appreciate your help! Thanks!

There are two ways of moving the map directly: with the mouse 'pushing' at the boundary and with the cursor keys. Are both methods faulty?

Lag happens over areas of high forestation or high mountains due to the (moving) 3D element - does the lag happen even over sea?

Both are faulty, whether on land or sea...unless, of course, something is moving.

Did you check if you have excessive background programs running?

Then I am pretty much out of ideas - you can still try to delete the medieval2.preference.CFG file in the medieval 2 total war folder to reset everything to default, it will generate again once you start the game.

Try setting the priority level for medieval2.exe or kingdoms.exe in Task Manager to "High" or "RealTime" maybe.
