Respublica Lucensis:
a Lucca submod for TIW 5.0
Description
This submod enables the Republic of Lucca as a playable faction in Medieval II Total War: The Italian Wars 5.0. Lucca, an independent city-state and maritime republic, survived from its foundation in the 12th century until Napoleon's invasion of the Italian peninsula almost 600 years later. A famous centre of the silk trade in the Italian Renaissance and temporary home of Dante, Lucca begins the Grand Campaign in 1493 in an exciting but difficult position ideal for players who like a challenge. Its small size as a one-province minor will suit the more experienced general: Lucca will have to claw its way through blood to greatness. At the same time, its silk trade and numerous potential maritime trade routes pose great opportunities for the more peaceful podesta in search of wealth.

Download & Installation Instructions
Simply download the .zip file here and unzip/extract using 7Zip or your preferred programme. Then, run the .exe file and, when prompted, install the submod to your mods/Italian_Wars folder.
Caveats & Limitations
- Please bear in mind that, installing this file will make the Signoria as Florence disappear as a faction. This is because the creator was unable to add new factions and unit rosters at this time, and so re-shaped Florence into the Republic of Lucca.
- As such, the Republic of Lucca 'takes the place' of Florence in history. It is still able to form the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, as all the Florence events simply happen to Lucca instead. This mod may be ideal for micro-state enthusiasts or those interested in Lucca, but generals in search of absolute historical accuracy will be disappointed.
