    Default To Marry a Darry

Many lords had been attending the coronation, among them Lord Darry of Darry as such Jonos approaches him with a simple request. Jonos was dressed in the armor of the Lord Commander hoping the prestige of the office would sway Darry's mind in this issue. Darry was in a corner talking to a few minor lords under him.

"Excuse me my Lord Darry," he says addressing the man. "I wish to marry your daughter Lord Darry. An alliance between House Darry and Bracken would be great asset to both houses." He was getting straight to the point. House Bracken was isolated in the Riverlands and needed friends as other houses contiued to grow in power and influence. Blackwood had Tully's ear Frey had a strangle hold on the North and Bracken would need friends close to home.

"There's a lot of nasty business going between yourself and the Blackwoods, I hear," queried Lord Darry cautiously, "I do not see that as my concern, but a daughter of mine wed to you would seem to thrust that fight upon me, Lord Commander."

News of the peace had not yet filtered out to the wider world.

"You need not worry about Blackwood, we have reached a peace agreement." He smiles thinking about the villages now finally under Bracken control after so many years. "You will not be brought into that particular feud."

"Is that so?" asked Lord Darry, his interest having been piqued, "and tell me, what is this agreement? There have been lulls in the fighting before, many times, only to have them flare up once again in months or years down the line."

"Blackwood has signed over control of some of the disputed lands, and I gave up the claims on the rest." Of course this didn't mean that in a years time Blackwood wouldn't come back to reclaim their lost land or that another Bracken wouldn't use the claims they had supposedly given up. Treaties had been signed before. He takes a sip of wine. "For now it is not Blackwood I worry about they have lost, and I see no reason to push it further as long as they continue to understand that." He looks at Darry, "They are irrelevant now."

"That is encouraging to hear," said Lord Darry with a nod, "Tell me, how fares the city under your stewardship? It has suffered trying times this past decade."

[OOC: Base roll is 10/20 as Gandalf said in the mod thread. Any modifiers?]

"It fares well enough, the wars have left the streets depleted with men and the Goldcloaks are not what they once were. Many died to get to where we are now." He shakes his head. "I have only jut begun the duties though it will take time."

    [OOC: Rolled 15.]

Time meant his daughter would be in King's Landing for the foreseeable future, and this Bracken seemed less like those he'd known in the past: Lord Darry was genuinely surprised to hear of a peace being brokered. Yes, there had been peace agreements in the past but it was always borne of both sides being exhausted rather than the two sitting down and agreeing a settlement.

War between the two seemed less likely, while Jonos' position meant he had become a man of greater stature. Few had the ear of the King and, though it was in a more limited sense, the Lord Commander of the Goldcloaks did sit on the Small Council...

"Very well Ser Jonos," said Darry, "You shall have my daughter's hand."

"Good I am sure we have, more to discuss in the future." To the north the Frey's grew ever stronger while the Tully's continued to wain. He wondered somewhat absent mindedly just how long it would be until Frey moved against Tully for good.
