Default Steam copy. No kingdoms.exe or launcher.exe in M2TW folder. What do?

I just downloaded my new steam copy of M2TW after the damaged disc copy finally stopped working yesterday. I immediately reinstalled SS6.3 and it went into the steam folder automatically so I thought all was good. however, when I try to open it I see it's unable to locate kingdoms.exe which is understandable because after searching I can't find it either. I definitely have kingdoms. I can play the kingdoms campaigns from the steam launcher. but i cannot find their .exes I am new to steam, this is my first game with them. What am I doing wrong?

Default Re: Steam copy. No kingdoms.exe or launcher.exe in M2TW folder. What do?

I had the same issue, well not the same exactly but for me, I had Medieval 2: Total War installed for ages, and when I got back into TW games a few days ago, tried to play it. Apparently it was missing an executable, something was/is still ed up with Steam. I tried re-installing and it finished with 4 GB, it lacks pretty much everything except a mod folder so I had to verify integrity of game cache to get the rest.. and then since I initially wanted to also give Europa Barbarorum II a try, I moved an M2:TW directory to another drive and I was too busy installing into that for this one I didn't realize it wasn't the path for Steam... how annoying.

Anyway, as of like July 2014, they combined Kingdoms & Medieval II: Total War, so you have M2:TW in your library, with Kingdoms as DLC. Right click on Medieval 2: Total War and you'll see this menu. Because of that, there's only a single exe called medieval2, which I assume has parameters added to it to launch the Kingdom campaigns.

No worries about that, I have gotten this mod to work, hopefully these tips will help.

    1) First off, copy medieval2.exe and paste it in the same folder so it's looks like this, and rename it to kingdoms so it looks like this.

    2) Install it the same way you have, it'll show you some prompts you've already seen (Early/Late campaign, AI and campaign settings, etc) The "Steam detected" prompt just gives you a tip you can add the launcher (in the end will be called SS_Launcher) to Steam as a non-steam game instead of manually clicking it in the mod/SS6.3 directory.

    3) Select yes when it asks you if you have Kingdoms, because you do. It should launch and say Stainless Steel 6.3

    4) Install the 6.4 patch and do the same, select what you want. After hitting start and exit, it should launch and say Stainless Steel 6.4. As said above, Launcher gets renamed automatically to SS_Launcher - if you want to add it as a non-steam game.

    5) Use either method of launching the game and it should work, and you can also play the vanilla game/DLC any time
