    Default Historical Battles

I was thinking about historical battles and had some ideas. I read that the limit is 10. Anyways, here are some ideas I had.

    1) battle of zama (well, since it is planned to be in game, why not)

    2) battle of cynoscephalae (perfect for AE timeline. Occurred in 197bc if I remember correctly. Rome with aetolian allies vs Macedon, Philip vs Flaminius. Decisive battle between the Macedonian phalanx and roman legions. Foggy wheather and Macedonians had not fully formed up yet. Roman manoeuvrability and elephants.)

    3) battle of sellasia (222bc. Achaean league and macedon vs sparta. A little bit before the AE timeline, but a fun battle for players, since the Achaean league isn't really well known compared to sparta or Athens for example. It was a battle between a Macedonian phalanx army of sparta and a more flexible army of macedon and Achaea. The numbers were almost equal from both sides. The battle proved decisive as Antigonus became the first general to occupy sparta. Note: sparta did not fight in hoplites anymore, most of the army was armed with pikes.)

    4) battle of versallae or battle of arausio(since the cimbri migration is something planned in this mod. These battles in my opinion are of great significance. Battle of arausio was a huge defeat of rome by the cimbri leaving 120,000 Romans dead. And battle of vversallae was the final showdown between Gaius Marius and the cimbri, scoring rome a great victory.

    5) battle of magnesia (Antiochus the great of the Seleucid empire vs rome and pergamene allies. This battle has to be addressed, since it would have been epic. Romans facing scythed chariots, elephants, cataphracts and the Macedonian phalanx in the same battle. Both sides had equal numbers according to modern estimates. It was a decisive battle indeed.

    6) battle of teutoburg (old but gold. Who doesn't like being ambushed by angry German tribesmen XD)

    7) a battle in the east would be nice, like the greco-Bactrian conquest of north eastern India or the Seleucid Parthian wars, but there are not enough sources to suggest the exact battles there. I guess the battle of raphia could do. As it was in 217bc I think. But very decisive.

    8) siege of alesia, but importing the fort might be a bit hard though, or maybe siege of Carthage. Doomons maps look perfect for such a scenario. But CA hasn't fixed the map tools yet so I don't know if this is possible.

    9) battle of Waterloo. A decisive battle between the Iceni and the Arverni. And yeah, I am just kidding XD
i am out of ideas for now. I hope I can think of more. But that is all I have for now.

pS, is it possible to play as both factions in historical battles. As a battle of cynoscephalae type scenario is fun for both macedon and rome, since each faction had its advantages (macedon-high ground, rome-elephants)

This one had me crack up.

Carrhae is one I'd like to see. It's a very interesting and challenging scenarion, particularly for Rome. Cynoscephalae is, in fact, one we've already added (in tests, I should stress) to the historical battle map locations. So far, only some probing has been done - important tables were looked up, the scripts were compared. No historical battles were added yet to the mod, but if we're going to do some - and I believe this is the case, but it might be post-release - Cynoscephalae is without a doubt going to be included.

Hahaha, Waterloo XD i swear it was in the ancient times, I swear.

looking forward to cynoscephalae. I feel it was a really amazing battle in the ancient times. Since arguably Macedon won the first Macedonian war although some say it was a stalemate. But macedon won the battles against rome. But Rome won the Punic wars proving its power. Macedon has a reputation of its army tradition, but so does Rome. The two nations are both competitive, and Rome was called by some Greek states who resented Macedonian rule. Macedon was on a hill, but there was foggy weather, making the skirmish quite a mess. Then of course the Macedonian right had failed to form up. The battle could have gone either way though. If the elephants were picked off by the Macedonian allies or something, this could have led to a roman rout. After all, how common is it for elephants to willingly charge into men armed with long pointy sticks. That is why I find this battle so interesting.

I would like to see Tuetoberg, it is one of the few rare battles of RII that really stand out. I would like to see it added into the mod.
