    Default A Feast of Crows (Second King's Landing Battle)

    ~~~~~ 268/269 AL ~~~~~
    Sixth Blackfyre Rebellion
    Third Battle of King's Landing
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    It was in the light of dawn, when blue banners, bearing the falcon crest and white moon of Arryn, approached the capital from the South, taking soon their position to confront Blackfyre in a field battle. Knowing that Baratheon and the Dornishmen would cover their back, Ser Denys was hopeful that they would be able to retake the capital in the name of Baratheon. Those, who once fought for the Blackfyre cause, are now standing against their former allies from the Golden Company.
    Spears were ready, swords were drawn, while horns were blown to dictate the armies into their positions. Daemon the Pretender would die this day and it would be the Arryns who hopefully would ensure this.

    OOC:
    Calculated their regular forces, if there's more men Alex can contribute apart from the militia, she's free to tell me. Don't know if she hired professionals

    Entire army: 24,928 men

    OOC: Orders will be made via PM. Basic plan is to confront with Arryn as the first host the Blackfyre army outside the capital, which according to Baratheon scouts is estimated around 30,000 men. Knowing that Baratheon is in the west, while some troops remained at Bronzegate to cover the surprise moment, they will march from the southern Kingsroad upon the capital.

    Anyone involved into the fight (Gandy, Oz, Alex, PM) is free to tell me if I overlooked some details regarding the hosts. In Alex' case I added up her militia to make things go smoother.
    Apparently the army also arrived earlier, since I notice that Ser Artys Waxley has logistician (why people never tell me ^^), though it doesn't matter too much except when it comes to time stamps.

    So yeah, let the games begin.

    [OOC: Doran Martell's seventeen thousand Dornishmen should arrive on the field around 5 RL hours after the Arryn force does. Pretty sure that's too late. But I had Doran aim for the KL hex, as it has all that land south of the blackwater in the same hex.]

    [EDIT: 5 RL hours corresponds to about 10-12 IC days. So the battle would be over, and the corpses rotting, by the time I arrive. But the victor will still be here.]

    OOC: As far as I know the plan was anyways to confront Blackfyre with the regular armies. Else it would be an unfair slaughter in my eyes. ^^

    [Gandy and I figured it out, we both arrive in the KL hex literally 5 RL minutes apart. The Dornish arrive 5 RL minutes later, which amounts to.. a couple hours?]

    Arryn arrives more than a week ahead of the Dornish and Stormlander armies... Are you rolling them as two separate battles, or are you just having the Dornish and Stormlanders come in late (they arrive 5 RL minutes apart, from the south and west respectively)?

    Yeah, I sent my orders thinking I was just facing Arryn since they came ahead of Baratheon and Dorne. If that is not the case, I would like to revise my orders then.

    I just checked the timestamps for each army. Dorne and Baratheon arrive within 5 minutes of each other which would make them participate together in 1 battle. However, LD's forces arrive 3 hours or so ahead of them, so that should constitute a battle of its own. So this battle for King's Landing should involve two separate encounters between Blackfyre and Baratheon-aligned forces.

    Yup it's supposed to be a battle between just Arryn and Blackfyre.
    Makes it more thrilling, while I also assume it's more fair. Plus, perhaps the chance to break my bad luck of not being able to win any major battles.
    Or my worst decision ever.

    Send them just the moment you said it.

    There was nothing pretty about this battle. No great struggle, no surprise turn of events, no last minute cavalry charges. A vastly outnumbered Arryn army marched against a swarm of Blackfyre troops and was promptly overwhelmed and cut down. This struggle does not deserve the name "battle".

    "Seven help us." Stevron muttered. "Prepare to charge!" He ordered his small reserve. The flanks began to break, soon the Blackfyre army would overwhelm them. He led his small contingent into the fray, attempting to screen the retreat. Many had fallen. They should never have left the safety of the Vale. Not again. Had not Arryn learned his lesson the first time? Drawing his sword, Frey engaged the closest man from horseback, leaving at least a single enemy wounded on the field. It would count for very little. "Sound the retreat!" he commanded. Arryn's banner had dipped, he knew his lord was dead.

    Ser Stevron Frey, as the most senior commander left unhurt, orders a retreat to the Vale.

    Lord Harrold commanded the whole right. It was only when the enemy really displayed its whole strenght when he started to worry.

    What madness is this? Why hasn't my nephew asked for advice?

    He arranged his men for battle and mounted at the head of the cavalry. They were told by Ser Denys to charge against the enemy's left. Hunter simply did not know how they were supposed to rout the horde marching through the battlefield.

    Gods be dammed, we're undone.

    He lowered his visor and asked for his lance and sword. The banners fluttered over his head. Waxley was somewhere close, under the candles of his house. The clash was terrible and Lord Hunter had to ride more than once in order to avoid his men wavering and routing too early. He splinttered a lance or two and killed several men, including a tall one wearing the heraldry of a long-gone house. But his flank was crumbling, it was plainly obvious they wouldn't win. Slowly, the Valesmen were massacred; Hunter tried to sway the tide by charging. In vain. Waxley was unmounted and taken captive, then Hunter realized he had to order the rout, Jon willing or not. Trumpets clamored for retreat and the army completely routed and what tried to be an orderly retreat became a mess, a bloodbath. Hunter rode swiftly to escape the carnage with Lord Upcliff.

    Seven hells, what was he thinking by dragging us to this?
    ...............................

    On the opposite flank, under Royce, a small retinue rode under the starry banner of Tarths. Selwyn was second in command to Royce and he stood near the lord of the Gates of the Moon, a stern and hardened commander. The battle ensued and it went poorly for the Valesmen, his men being butchered before his eyes Selwyn did something stupid and tried to prevent the rout by directly charging headlong into the enemy. Unknowing, he did the same that costed Boremund his life. And as History is ciclical and tends to repeat itself Selwyn was swiftly unmounted after some his bodyguards were killed and most simply ran away. A second Lord Tarth was dragged before Maegor.

    Oh fate, what a cruel mistress!

    Daemon witnessed the slaughter of the Vale forces. Truly, the Seven did not favor their endeavor as his soldiers surged forth, killing scores of soldiers and taking groups of others captive. He eyed two prominent captures; Selwyn Tarth and Matthos Waxly. One was surely the son of the late Lord Tarth while the other was a noble obeying his oath. He stares coldly at them both, pondering upon their fates. Silently, the Blackfyre dismounts his horse and approaches Tarth first.

    Another Tarth, I have captured. I will surely be hated by your kin for this, hatred that will burn just as fire burns through wood. Fueled only by the unending rage within your hearts.
