    Default Many Meetings at Riverrun

With negotiations with the Lannisters concluded, Walder marched his army to Riverrun. "Send ravens to our commanders in the field and the northern lords. Riverrun is safe. Ask them to meet me here." with the messages sent all Walder could do was wait and brood

Jarak Mormont arrived wondering why the hell some petty Riverland lord was holding a meeting in the capital of the Riverlands. Where were the Tullys? Where was the Westerland enemy that had been promised? Mormont was looking for blood and angry he had been denied a chance to do battle as he and a few retainers came into the meeting.

Warrick Tully had been gathering his men and sending word for the Levies at Harrenhall to march to Stone Mill under Lord Darry's command (impromptu commander but that would be the marching order I gave before and stands at this point).
He was with Lord Whent and Myles who were both in a bad way following the fight. The North approached and relief with it.

Walser bowed before Warrick. "My lord, the Lannister threat to our lands has been removed. Lord Tywin has been captured by my forces and is a hostage at The Twins. The victory came at a high price...the Lannisters captured Lothar." his eyes were wet. He had failed another son.

Warrick stared at Walder through. He asked absently, Captured? Alive? Where are the Lannister forces currently?

Stark arrived, but he wasn't alone. An army of Northmen rode at his back. An army in the tens of thousands, clad in furs and arm with weapons of bronze, iron, and steel. They rode shaggy war horses, and some were quite tribesmen covered in tattoos. When he arrived he searched out his old friend and ally Walder.. Where were the Lannisters? The trout of Riverrun still flew from the walls of the formidable keep. Stark was flanked by his Blood Brother Dustin and his twin by birth Brandon. His young son Artos was nearby, alongside a number of other prominent lords.. But the old crazy man Benjen was no where to be seen.

Mormont and some of his most trusted retainers stood with Stark. Waiting for some sort of explanation.

"Captured." he replied. "I ordered a night raid to aid in breaming the siege. When the hostages had be taken I negotiated a peace. The Lannister forces will completely vacate the Riverlands. They move south, probably to join baratheon. I hope i have not overstepped my bounds in this matter..." Walder looked older than ever. But he ligtened when he saw the Starks. "Ah. Our old and faithful friends. My sincere thanks for coming. I was afraid we would need you to pu our nuts out of the fire again. I won't forgwt this act of friendship lord stark."

    Mormont snorted at Frey's words.

"You negotiated with the enemy? We could have smashed them upon the walls of Riverrun and filled the land with blood. There would not have been another invasion for generations after we were finished. You took the coward's way out because your son was taken. The Lannisters are now free amd their army is still intact. Close to treason in my eyes and my sword has still not been drawn from its sheath. I marched all this way for battle."

Walder! Stark laughed a slight at the sight of the heavily aged man. You've gotten old! Stark too had aged, a heavily grayed beard and thick twisting burns all along his left arm. He came close embracing the Frey. It wouldn't be the first time. The Kingsroad, the First siege of Riverrun. We've pulled the trout out of the frying pan more than once my friend. He looked to Mormont. We aren't savages with a list for blood.. He turned back to Frey. But the Westermen do owe a debt, from what I've heard thousands dead, fields and villages pillaged, keeps burned.

Mormont looked at Stark skeptically. "It's better than well known that I crave a battle, adventure, or some letting of blood Stark. Many of the clansmen would agree with me on that. The Wildlings haven't proved too bothersome recently, but I was hoping these Westerlanders might put up a better fight." Obviously Stark had grown soft dealing with these southrons and living in the capital. "My point stands. Frey has negotiated with the enemy and made peace on his own accord. I fail to see his right in this. Am I able to go make my own negotiations as well? I thought you had more love for the North Stark...."

Bah! Lord Frey fought, he negotiated his battle resolution. I hold no grudges. However, is Lothar alive, and by what road did they take? The next question is, what was their next move?

Stark's naturally icy eyes fell on his vassal. For generations beyond count my family has guarded and fought for the North. I've shed blood in the name of my people since I was old enough to weild a blade right and proper - the blood of bandits, pirates, slavers, wildlings and Valesmen. The North is my only home, and I love her more than you could know. His hand came to rest casually upon the hilt of his blade. But I take no joy in killing, in the screams of my kinsmen and the carpets of Northern dead. I fight because that is the way of the world, to protect those I care for and the things dearest to me and mine. If my prayers are answered there'd be a summer to last a thousand years and peace to last a thousand more. Perhaps Frey has overstepped his authority as a Riverlord, but that is up to Warrick, the Lord of these lands to decide, to decide. He nodded to Dustin. Aye, where have they made off to? The Westermen have proven themselves treacherous these past decades. I feel as if the last blood had not been split here.

Jarak simply shook his head. Stark was out of touch and soft. He cared more for southrons and their ilk than he did for the North.

"We speak of family eh? For generations my own has been under constant attack by slavers and Wildlings besides the natural predators of the island. I don't need your lectures Stark because myself and my family are on the front lines defending the rest of you from attacks by sea. You think I don't love this land? And my family that lives within it? However, that love does not make me weak. Duels and battles are contests of strength and skill. They are things of beauty and the spilling of blood can paint a portrait that an artist would never be able to. The ability to roam, explore, and pit oneself against his opponents is not to be belittled. Just because you have abandoned many of the ways of our forefathers does not mean the rest of us must follow them too. The Westerlanders deserve death and destruction. Have you not seen? Seas of dead and the countryside is burned to a crisp."

Aye, the Wildlings and the Westerlands. This is not a lecture Lord Mormont, just conversation between men.
Dustin bellowed with a smile, smacking the back of Mormont. He nodded to his Lord and friend Rickard.

Be that as it may, I have an axe to grind with these Westermen if it's more fighting to be had. I have young men that need to be bloodied to learn what it is to be a warrior. But I'd be lying if I said they didn't deserve to go home either. And in every war someone's brother, or father, is never to return. But it's not my land that's been burned.
    Dustin ended.

Warrick wanted to finish these Westerland forces before they could retreat once more. He wanted to crush them and their spirit. But if Lord Frey's son was captive, doing so would risk his life. Warrick wanted revenge however. He wanted heads. If they fled deeper into the Riverlands, it might be all he needs to hunt them again.

Jarak grins widely at Dustin. "You've got that right them both! Let's get on with the conversation then so we can decide what we're going to do then. These Westerlanders have not yet lost on the field of battle. I say they need to be smashed so that they can't just invade again once we've marched back North. My men and I both marched here for a battle to be had. My oldest boy needs to see what real battle looks like. Let's get back on the march and finish these Westerlanders off."

Rickard turned to Warrick. What say you? Stark questioned. I marched south to pull you from the fire, I don't relish the idea of depriving more Northern mothers of their sons.. But the Westermen invaded your lands, destroyed your keeps, and killed your people. There's a blood debt to be paid, and I don't think they can be trusted.

"If they break the truce I'll be the first in battle." Edywn replied calmly. "We left double their number dead on the field. It might not have been a great victory but our lands are safe and no more western armies will pillage at will. Certainly it is not worth ooening the conflict further? If you've demands to make of Lannister for his crimes tit might be done by peaceful means...or by more calculated means."

Edwyn, you and Lord Walder have conducted yourselves with honor. I do not wish to tarnish your honor. It was your victory and I do believe you should have negotiated for more BUT, there wouldn't have been anything to negotiate without YOUR victory. Your family is still kept. I am not done with them, though by outright war it seems like my hands are tied. I need options damnit!

Warrick slammed his hand into the table. He was hurting. Inside he was hurting. Nothing had gone well, and now Frey had negotiated terms that bound his hands.

Myles lay in pain, his arrow wound still healing. He thought of things to do to solve this problem. Dishonorable things...

Dustin rocked back and forth, he wanted to pace but he kept himself in control. He marched to fight, but hell, the war was all but over. And his men, with his son, would probably go home alive. He could live with that.
