The army of Daemon Blackfyre fans out before Bronzegate which had an army of its own arrayed to halt the advance of the Blackfyre forces. From the looks of things, Baratheon could tell that Daemon had some new friends among his ranks; banners of House Rosby and House Brune as well as their vassals fly high. The banners of House Bracken and her vassals also noted. Then came the presence of Tyrell banners, fluttering alongside the black banners of House Blackfyre. Daemon rides at the front of his soldiers, accompanied by his commanders and a group of Moryn's Unsullied. His host had swelled immensely since the previous engagement at King's Landing.

He turns back to his army and makes a gesture. The soldiers parted, revealing a coffin that was brought forth. Daemon snaps the reins of his horse, joining the soldiers took the coffin towards the center of the battlefield and awaited a party from the Baratheon's come forth and claim it. With him came Moryn Tyrell, Tom the Butcher and Boremund Bracken. They remained out of range of both armies. A white flag of truce is planted to indicate the nature of his intentions. The Blackfyre watches carefully now, examining the soldiers arrayed before him. He noticed Crownlander forces, under the banner of the Seven Pointed Star. The Valyrian had heard of a Holy League of Lords that had sprouted within the Crownlands and followed the dictations of the corrupt High Septon.

The Baratheon and Holy League forces were arrayed before the walls of the fortress of Bronzegate, blocking the path for the Blackfyre advance into the Stormlands. At their head sat Steffon Baratheon, stony faced, with an antlered crown resting atop his weathered brow. As he saw the Blackfyre party ride forth, Baratheon signalled to his own lords, with a party of Stormlander and Crownlander lords riding forward towards the coffin. In his heart, Steffon knew what the contents were, and ground his teeth in visible anger as the line of horsemen trotted forth.

"False Daemon." Baratheon merely stated, recognising the man finally as Maegor Targaryen. He was not surprised at the revelation that the lying parasite had turned out to be the one who had been conspiring to gain the throne all these years. At his side stood a Bracken, a man who had sent him a letter professing his loyalty. A name to remember, then, Baratheon thought, devising an imagined punishment for the brute in his mind.
"Is this my goodfather, brought to me in a coffin?" Stoically he asked, his gaze dark.

Daemon does not show any emotions, keeping a plain expression upon him. He glances down at the coffin for a moment before looking at Baratheon.

I give you back the one who offered you the crown, Baratheon. He died believing in you and with curses at my person thrown till the very end. Take his body and return it to his ancestral lands, so that his widow and offspring may have some comfort, knowing that his body was returned, unlike the many that Aerys burned for sport and his pleasure. At least Tarth did not die at the Mad King's hands.

He nods to the soldiers who pick up the coffin and place it before Baratheon's party before retreating back to where Daemon stood with his own company.

Steffon looked down at the coffin with a grimace, and shook his head. Searching his mind for some pointed remark, he found none, and turned his gaze away from Blackfyre to watch the coffin be borne away by Baratheon retainers.
"He died with honour, then? Last I saw him, he was your prisoner." Baratheon asked, without any malice, but with a hint of resigned exhaustion in his voice.

Daemon continues to remain plain his expression. His horse begins to fidget a bit, making Daemon pull on the reins to calm his mount.

A prisoner of mine does not mean they do not die with honor. Criston Tully met his death with honor, dueling me in a trial by combat, requested by him and granted by me. Tarth may have been my prisoner, but I still give him an honorable death and not a blatant execution as any soldier is given on the battlefield. You look upon me as a heartless monster, but I am not my kin.

Daemon then glances back at his army. The formalities would end here, knowing the battle awaited them all. It was time he spoke a few words before their clash began.

This war will end soon enough, Baratheon. For despite your attempts, the Reach has declared for me. Mace Tyrell sees the justice in my cause... you were a fool to give him back his land in the hopes that the Reachmen would remain neutral. You gave up vital pieces in this Game of Thrones that may very well cost you everything you fight for. Let us see who will win this battle today and see who the Seven, and not the High Septon, truly favor.

He pulls upon his horse and turns away with his company, returning back to his soldiers.

OOC: Whatever flank Tom's on he'll try to duel the commander in the opposite side. But if possible not the King, while it would suit his character to kill Steffon that'd be a lame way to end the war.

ooc Your gamble on the left didn't pay off LM you lost the Center and Right, however your route roll was only a 1 so you got really lucky there

In a desperate attempt to quickly overwhelm Baratheon's forces Daemon arrayed most of his strength on the Left flank, however the embattled Bartheon men where able to hold, for longer than expected, while Tom lead the Left Flank to victory the Baratheon forces routed the center and the right. With no other choice Daemon was forced to withdrawal completely, the Golden Companies rigorous discipline was all that kept the day from ending in total disaster.

    (Okay, apparently no prisoners)

Steffon observed the battle from behind the lines, as usual, shouting various commands to his men as the battle commenced. Then came the clash of steel, the piles of corpses, and the streams of blood.
It was chaos, thousands dying on all sides. Unlike many men, the triumphant clash of forces was not something Baratheon relished. It was a trial, a test, especially battles like these. For while Baratheon soldiers stood their ground and won the day, it was at a great cost. The Golden Company retreated, in good order, his own men too exhausted to harry them from the field, but the day was his. Any fears of defeat had been banished when Baratheon personally joined the fray in the dying throes of the battle, driving the enemy forces in the centre from the field. But his stomach churned, heaved, as the stench of death filled his nostrils. It took considerable effort not to throw up the contents of his stomach, for the fields of Bronzegate were carpeted with corpses.

"Another victory like this, and I shall be undone." Baratheon said aloud, to nobody in particular, as he surveyed the carnage. Mournfully, one of his retainers skulked towards him, bearing ill news.
"Your uncle is... dead, sire. He perished in the cavalry charge on the right flank." Steffon's gaze dropped to the ground, and his mouth tightened. Harbert had been loyal to a fault to the Baratheon family, ever reliable, and now he was gone. For a moment, Baratheon recalled those sweet summers at Storm's End, where he'd practice crossing swords with his uncle in the courtyard, his father's bellowing laughter as he watched the mock jousts...
"Return him to Storm's End. He shall be buried in the halls of his fathers." He announced, suddenly, his tone devoid of any emotion. Tarth's body had been dismembered, too. The hands... noticeably stitched back on. Something his retainers had observed. He would not let his uncle's body be desecrated in such a way, he affirmed. So much for an honourable death.

With the tide of battle suddenly turning against them, Ser Thorgen got overwhelmed at some point by the Stormlander knights, this time being not fortunate enough.
A fine blow against his head knocked the man out within the chaos, as the Wildfyre knight fell to the ground. He tried to resist, called his inner prayers for R'hllor, but as his vision became suddenly darker and the world turned upside down, it was darkness which engulfed the young knight.
Again he felt the helpless feeling he had once, the feeling of a young man, who accompanied the old knight...
... he felt how his father was beating him severly... a flute was played...
the Septon was holding a sermon... a woman walked barefeet down the street, clothed in rags...
then fire... the Kingswood suddenly burned... the old man fell from the horse, yelling in shock...
a last of the green fire could be seen, as the world seemed to burn...
    again the darkness...

    Beware,
    as the Night is dark
    and full of terrors!

Tom was the undefeated savage, the one eyed menace.. One of the last of the Nine. He fought because his blood and bone called on him to do so, because his soul craved death and carnage. The battle was a blur, he had seen too many to count. Once you've fought in enough they all seemed the same. The enemy cavalry had been quickly swept aside, and when the infantry clashed Tom led had the charge. Victory.. He remembered thinking, blood staining the braids of his sea blue beard. But everywhere else on the feild the battle had been a different story. Thousands dead, carpets of corpses.. Mountains of skulls, rivers of blood. The men began to withdraw from the feild in good order. But Tom would have none of it, he rushed back toward the fray ready to be bloodied.. To see the enemy's ruin strewn across the battle feild. But today was not that day, some Stormlander split his leg. There was the snap of bone, the rush of blood, the parting of sinew.. The bastard would have killed him if the Golden Company hadn't rallied about their commander and dragged him to safety. Even so, Tom thrashed and cursed and screamed as he was dragged away.

Across the field from the Baratheon army, a shocking banner was sighted by the Stormlander forces: a body of knights was flying the rose banner of House Tyrell.

Donnel took his place alongside the rest of the Faith army, looking across the field at the approaching Blackfyre forces. He'd sited himself with the heavy horse, a mix of the Warrior's Sons and sworn knights faithful to various Holy Lords, and eagerly awaited the order to enter the fray.

Eventually it came and the cavalry thundered across the field, crashing into the enemy forces and becoming engaged in a swirling melee. The Baratheon forces did excellently at first, pushing deep into the enemy lines, but a counter-attack from Blackfyre's own cavalry saw the charge pushed back. Donnel found himself cut off and his horse was brought down, the Castellan of Dragonstone finding himself swarmed by Blackfyre infantry.

He fought as best he could, alongside a small body of Warrior's Sons similarly cut off, but the weight of numbers ground them down and Donnel, plus half a dozen men left standing, were overcome. His armour signified value, so Donnel was dragged from the field.

It was not until after the battle that he was recovered, locked in a cage among the Blackfyre baggage train.
