I'm playing as SPQR, when i attacked Segesta, Rhegium, Tarentum, and Ambrakia the enemy sally forth, even though i'm the one attacking around two or three past the first siege contact.
It happens like this, i build some 3 or 4 rams, and then proceed to bash down the walls and the gate. When that one ram is almost at the main gate, or already started bashing it down, suddenly the enemy charges forth the unit responsible for the ram, they keep pushing out regardless of both army sizes, or how many units i have stationed right outside the main gate. They simple charge out and try to push my unit away from the ram. Even though it sounds cool, its actually kind real dumb, since i'm also bashing the neighbouring sections of the main gate with my rams, hence rendering their effort to sally forth useless.
When i was attacking Ambrakia for example, a healthy good sized phanlanx unit, broke their well established position just behind the gate - and charged out at my hastati unit -. I dont need to mention that had they secured the gate -behind it-, they would grind lot of my units, but instead, chose to charge my men in complete disarray. An easy kill for my romans.
I have seen this kind of behaviour in almost every siege i go, the ones i specifically mentioned are the ones i noted down, but its fair to say in all my sieges this has happened.
To clarify how i roll expansion: I get a good stack of units, besiege the target and tell my men to build 3-4 rams, and siege towers or ladders when needed, wait 2 or three turns (not long enough for them to starve), then attack and let the gods decide the truth out of it. (Too bad my gods are powerful enough to force a phanlanx sally forth).
This one thing i haven't noticed widespread, but i did notice on two ocasion: So i thought it would be cool to use ladders to take an epirote city, send my hoplites to ladder up and charge those pyrrhic walls. Turns out they're too bold to climb the ladder up all the way up the wall, but too afraid to actually climb down and lock melee with the enemy. They get stuck at where the ladders meet the wall. I can tell them to come down the ladder, but i cant make them to come down the other way and make them engage the enemy.
Those are my main two questions, pardon if this has been discussed, i tried searching but no luck.
The other is this
I'm fairly sure this has been asked before, did a quick search but couldn't find anything specific. Anyways, i get scottish english voices from my lads when i'm playing sweboz.
I started playing EB1, around that time Sweboz had black painted warriors (kind like the vanilla ones), i thinkj around 0.5 or -0.6, cant tell for sure. Played all the way to 2012, then quitted, but now i'm back to EB2. (i'm also considering getting EB 1.21, EB1 was my all time favorite). Sorry if this issues have been discussed before, i did my search but i missed finding them. I also dont follow dev diaries, twitters or weekly update threads, please bear me.
Last, but not for the dearly least,
Congratulations on hobby making the most complete, awesome, perfect, engaging, imaginative, and breath-taking mod of world's history. I'll make sure my grand-grand- kids will play EB1 and EB2 and learn about that one lone spartan mercenary that went to work for the carthagineans.
Cheers!
PS: In EB1 there was a quote that went something like this
"Bob, Jim, and charlie were here - Gaulish inscription on a stone in egypt." Naturally i cant remember the lads name, nor where the inscription actually was, but i do remember reading a quote like that in EB1, can anyone clarify on the true quote?
