Default Proposal: Dornish Horse Archers (Alternative Warfare)

(This proposal builds off of and modifies from Perry's "Alternative Warfare System" proposal)

I propose that we add a unique abilities to all cavalry that is recruited by Dornish lords (all of Dorne, even the Stone Dornish regions), as well as special unique parameters which apply to NPC Dornish militia defaults.

    Here is the entry from the Wiki which gives proof of Horse Archery, its citation leading Chapter 3 of A Feast for Crows (first Cersei chapter);
Dornishmen prefer round metal shields, spears, short throwing spears or double-curved bows. The Dornishmen are famous for their sand steed-riding light cavalry, and use their double-curved bows skillfully from horseback. Because of the heat, they wear lighter armor than in the rest of the Seven Kingdoms made of metal disks, sometimes decorated with copper, sewn in the manner of scales on the leather. To allow themselves to fight in the burning sun of Dorne, they wear brightly colored flowing robes covering the metal parts of their armor.

    The ability applies as thus:
    - All Dornish cavalry units may Skirmish; Light, Heavy, and Elite can all use it.
    - Skirmish works like archer/crossbow units; do archer roll for ever cavalier skirmishing; Dornish cavalry may then either commence normal melee orders in battle, or retreat from battle.

Furthermore, all Dornish cavalry in Dorne may engage in Guerrilla tactics on non-Dornish armies (any army controlled by non-Dornish House or character), creation of which is credited to Perry (though I have modified/simplified):
    - For Every hex that the enemy army moves through, it will undergo a skirmish roll from all Dornish cavalry engaged in Guerrilla tactics against. The skirmish roll works just like skirmish rolls in battle, except that defending archers can only do halved damage. This represents guerrilla damage done over time through the hex. Each hex gets a different skirmish, until the guerrillas are ordered to do otherwise.

Finally, Dornish NPC/AI militia compositions will have their own seperate default different from the rest of the Westeros (Ironborn have their own custom composition, for example); Dornish AI Lords build their militia as follows:
    40% Heavy Cavalry
    40% Light Cavalry
    20% Heavy Infantry

In retreat, Dornish cavalry can often get away without combat after skirmishing.
Non-Dornish cavalry can pursue for combat under the following caveats:
    - Dornish Light Cavalry cannot be caught by non-Dornish cavalry; Other Dornish Light Cavalry can catch it.
    - Dornish Heavy Cavalry can be caught by non-Dornish Light Cavalry; Other Dornish Heavy/Light Cavalry can catch them as well
    - Dornish Elite Cavalry can be caught by any cavalry

(Perry, I recommend you modify your original proposal or create another one to cover the Crannogmen; I'm being selfish here)

All I'm saying is I don't see why all of Dorne gets a bonus like this if the Neck can't get any sort of defensive bonus besides its currently rather wimpy attrition.

I never said the Neck couldn't, I just don't know how or on what scale to do unique stuff for the Neck, so as I wrote at the bottom, I'll leave that you or someone else. On the other hand, I've spent a lot of time thinking about Dorne and its potential for horse archery. You could do as you suggested in your thread: have light infantry in the Neck do the same as cavalry in Dorne.

Look, without this proposal and further proposals that make raiding not so useless strategically, Dorne is basically irrelevant and too weak to matter at all in the game. If this doesn't pass, or something like it that allows Dorne to actually even stand a chance, then Dorne should just become NPC.

Gotta test it out first of course, but thanks for the support..

I think I'll set up some rolling tables when I have time (unless someone else wants to do it, but I don't see why they would)

I also propose that we replace the "Guardians of Sunspear" AOR unit (which is completely useless due to cost, points caps, and the ratio-of-flank system) with:

    Dornish Knights (heavy cavalry)
    Cost: 12,000 Dragons
    Upkeep: 2500 Dragons
    Points: 900
Skill: The heaviest of Dornish horsemen, these knights fight with bow and lance and heavy scale and lamellar, in a fashion the Free Cities call "cataphractoi". These troops gain +4 to battle rolls if fighting in Dorne. They can also skirmish as horse archers before combat, just like any Dornish cavalry.

Is the +4 subject to the same flank % rules all professionals are? Or are you proposing changing that system?

This going to happen? I'd like to know before I sign up a Dornish house.
