Chaos invasion destroyed suddenly??

as the titles says, i still playing my dwarf campaign (roughly 200-ish turns by now) and i was about to conquer the whole vampire counts territory when suddenly got steamrolled by full stacks of chaos hordes, razed setttlement after settlement, than i checked and they had full strenght, clicked end turn and all the sudden "chaos is destroyed"..... O_o i didn't, VC didn't (barely surviving), empire didn't... game just destroyed them... is it a bug or just game mechanic or something else????

two thoughts on this. Someone got assassin happy and killed all important chaos generals. or check the quicksave to see which chaos generals you see. my guess is if they didn't all get assassinated then only one of the 4 or so important ones were alive and he got rekt that turn.

that could be what happened. but that would be quite a lucky streak for the assassins to get in one stroke the chaos gone there was two stacks on my region (eastern,western sylvania) and 1 chaos stack besieging stirland

If it makes you feel any better, you would likely have just gotten aggravated spending turn after turn chasing after the Chaos Horde as they inevitably just run away from you.

Yah I do not really know how the Chaos mechanics work. In my Dwarf campaign I was so focused on the badlands and mountains that when Chaos died I had only fought 1 or 2 stacks of them. I killed their main leader and the next turn said (chaos is ended ect...)... I just figured the other factions fought the bulk of them.

In my VC campaign its alittle different. I settled land all the way up to Kislev and that was a bit of a mistake. I have 6 full chaos stacks in my lands and only 2 and a half or so able to defend myself. I have been killing them slowly with Zombies and garrisons... Thing is I have killed the main guy 3 times and the big demon lord fellow atleast 2 times. They are still coming after me. I am in the middle of a rock and a hard place with Dwarves being the #1 faction owning everything south of me and Empire being # 2 with an alliance with Brettonia as #3.. I come in 5th as my lands have been raided and pillaged by the Chaos more then anyone else. (save the dead factions.. RIP) So I am looking to rid them as soon as possible so I can rebuild and fortify for the inevitable wars with Empire and the Dwarves..

So I guess I am coming here not with an answer but with further questioning on how these guys work and how they magically vanish as well.

Basically, it works like this:

1) Empire Campaign - Chaos is a threat and will come through your lands raiding, attacking, and annoying you. The intensity of this attack is dependent on which direction you expand through.

2) Vampire Counts - Similar to Empire, but you'll likely feel the full weight of Chaos. They will come directly through your land.

3) Orcs - Who are these Chaos invaders? All I had was one stack of them attack from the southwest, then just got the occasional message saying they are dangerous.

4) Dwarfs - Yeah, me too, Orcs. They pretty much walked around in circles to the north of me. I killed that one invading stack to the south and then the humans eventually just killed the rest off.

Ai chaos hordes are really weak the real threat are those Varg, Skaeling and other nordling faction. Even i play as a chaos faction, Varg could easily destroy some minor empire faction. CA should lower the income of those minor faction.

As empire on hard is was a breeze to kill them. Much more difficult on the vamp campaign as im fighting everything and suddely four stacks start burning my towns while my Mannfred is down in Bretonnia and Kemmler is dealing with the five or so Ork stacks attacking me that turn.

it's cus a well built empire army will rek an equal point value chaos army 70% of the time. At least that was the case in 7th ed. Due to all the fluff I thought empire was trash, but one day a friend challenged me to use his empire to try to figure out why he was losing all the time. their units were meh individually, but their special rules that allowed units to group together were fantastic. 1 unit of 20 swordsmen with a unit of 10 handgunners and another of 10 halberds in one grouping would straight ruin a chaos warrior charge, especially if you inbed a captain or warrior priest in the unit. the mortars and great cannon were almost guaranteeing you significant damage to the enemy in the round or two before they closed with you, and the flaggelents were great for eating a charge from nurgle chosen knights so you could get a flank on them with your greatswords or cavalry (if you ever even fielded them, I always felt that the economy per model of imperial infantry made cavalry neat, but less effective, pretty much played them like a better dwarf army). finally I picked up one modell of a hellblaster volley gun and that made that army almost as fun as playing orcs. Will it fire 36 shots this round? Will it explode? Who knows? Roll the dice!

TLR Empire when played right should always beat chaos. Chaos only has the one thing it does well, and unfortunately empire has a counter for every one thing (much like space marines in 40k)

That is very strange to happen in just one turn. I can imagine it happening in maybe 4-5 turns minimum. Maybe those stacks you saw were actually the last of their armies. They were actually very strong stacks but an alliance of humans could have destroyed them in one turn. That's the most logical it can get.
