    Default video card problem...

Installed a 7600 GT (agp version) in second computer of mine, booted computer up video is fine boots to windows xp. Go to install the drivers and moment the drivers start to finish the screen flashed with white lines thru it and then screen goes black and pops up as if the monitor isnt connected to video card. Tried removing the card to make sure it was seated in slot properly, made sure the power molex was connected to video card. PSU is only 400 watt (20amps on 12v rail) but its only a 7600 GT and power requirement shouldnt be much more then 6600 GT it was replacing and that worked fine. So is the card doa? Usually if card is dead it wont turn on with a display and boot windows its only when the drivers are installed to actually USE the card that it happens and yes tried different version of the drivers.

Can't make assumptions about power consumption between generations. They can go either way, but the trend shows power consumption will continue to rise.

What measures have you taken when installing/deleting the drivers? Did you completely remove your previous drivers? Reboot? Safe mode and use driver cleaner?

Yep did that though probably wasnt even necessary since the older card was 6600 GT with latest drivers but yeah uninstalled/cleared drivers before installing the new card then installed the drivers on the cd when that didnt work and problem kicked in tried latest ones again and same problem. Moment the drivers 'kick in' so to speak the screen flashes with white lines then goes black as if out of synch. No amount of fiddling with it afterwards in safe mode does anything to change it forcing me to uninstall the drivers to get windows xp to boot in vga mode.
