    Default BI and RTW

    Just doing a little probing.
How many of you have BI?
Can you play this mod beside it without difficulty?
Have you installed it IN a directory with orig BI, or patched to 1.6?

What do you think would be the advantages of converting Roma Surrectum to BI? Disadvantages?

Do any of you know of any mod that HAS converted this time-period from RTW to BI? (280BC-200AD)

Reason I ask is that it was suggested, and I have never played BI, so I don't have any experience with the AI or any of it. I currently HAVE a Mundus Magnus map that was converted to BI....just wondering. Post your thoughts here....

Well, im sure you know my thoughts on the matter, but to summarise my opinions; BI would offer:

    • Improved AI (including Naval Invasions)
    • New special abilities (shieldwall etc)
    • Proper Loyalty (Using the ex-Briton Free-People faction)
    • Decreased competetion (As yet there are no mods that cover the same era as Roma Surrectum. Imperium is dead, I doubt whether Ancient Wars will be released, so that only leaves RTR7, which is some way off)
    • Possibility for emerging factions
    • Hording (Not just for Sarmatians. Think if the Free People could horde, down to there last settlement then BAM! they horde, representing a movement of people after youve conquered an area)
    • Religion: Now, there are multiple possibilities with this. You could simply stick to religion; using Pagan, Phoenician, Olympianism, Egyptain, Zorastianism; or alternatively you could develop something new. For example, Hegemonia City States uses the religion feature to represent government types.

By the way, where did you get the converted Mundus Magnus Map? or did you do it yourself?

What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? I venture to suggest that what we mean is a sense of national responsibility ... a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.

I'm not sure where it came from....I think it might've been something that Vlad was working on and finished. I know he did one, but he converted it to the BI factions, of course....which is what would be needed. This whole idea is real 'teaser'...because I'm finding all the mods that were GOING to do this are dead, and the only other one is RTR7, which could be done when I'M dead.
I don't think it would be all that hard to do...I've already converted RTW into BI, so why not the other way around? One real advantage as a modder, for me anyway, is also that there is no longer that stupid requirement for an 'egyptian' culture in BI, and the 'Free people' could be even better.

Yep. With Loyalty the Free People will be around for ever, and hording would make them very painful to come across. I think it would be a great idea.

By the way, one place you can get it (Mundus for BI) is 'Vlad Mod for BI' for sure. Tyr, you've hit upon one of my 'weaknesses'. The very reason I started writing Roma Surrectum was because I read a question on this site one time that said: "Is it possible to have all of Rome's Legions in a game with their own banners and stuff, because no one's even done it yet?"
The answers the guy got were basically, no, why bother, lot of work...etc., but it could be done.
    So I did it.
I love a challenge, and I do think this could be done....but again, when I look at the mods that have failed in this, one consistant reason I see is that they just try to do way too much. It therefore takes too long, there is too much work (requiring more people, and thus more dependencies), and it just gets too complicated. People quit, the mod dies, and the ideas with it.
So at least to start, it would be kept simple...like RS is.

I got RTW Gold Edition, I just installed RS over the RTW files, and there haven't been any problems
Just as an idea, Fourth Age TW have converted BI's religion to represent the type of people in the settlement, maybe you could have 'Roman' ,'Greek' ,'Barbarian' etc style, to represent the changing culture after the city had been taken by a different culture, plus it might increase revolts against the new culture, whether that's good or bad for gameplay is another thing though...
