Default Why can enemy armies pass by my armies?

I was blocking Blackfire pass off, thinking that the two armies I had stationed there would prevent the Greenskin Waagh from crossing (I'm at war with the Greenskins). But alas, an army can move right by another opposing army and attack the settlements behind. And my Vampire armies can do exactly the same, pass right thru enemy Greenskin armies in Blackfire pass and other mountain passes. Zone of control doesn't seem to exist.

This is terrible. I will say, that I didn't try ambush stance, but if ambush stance prevent them from passing if they discover me, then it is still terrible. Blackfire pass is tiny on the battlemap, there is no way a Greenskin Waagh could sneak by two full stacks.

Orks and Dwarfs can use underground highways to pass through your armies.

Did you put them in Ambush stance? I don't know if you can intercept in force march or normal stance though.

Intercept base chance for an underground army is 50% IIRC, but can be skilled down to 20% (?) for greenskins. (underground evasion)

I try to switch into ambush stance against dwarfs/greenskins, whenever possible, else the mountain crossing stuff can be really annoying.
And having a couple of nifty high-level banshee never hurt either ^^

I think I had the same issue earlier. Being unable to intercept armies that are in forced march stance is the single greatest , ever. As if it weren't enough that you can't catch AI armies, they just simply whizz right past you.

So it seems this was intended. I'm thinking the best workaround is to mod ambush stance so it gives 100% chance to intercept enemies, and give it a 0% chance of being discovered.

can/could also be modded....its just an entry in campaign_variables. (underground intercept base chance)

It isn't a problem with underground intercept. As I said, my armies (VC) pass right by their armies too.

How can you pass by? I can't do that, they block me.

yeah I thought you were using underways... I have never experienced this

unless they are using underways and you are bypassing them when they are in underway stance.

Possibly related to the issue described by me in this thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ng-as-intended

This is an obscure "feature" that has now been in Total War games dating back many years. If you wish to attack an settlement through a ZOC it allows you! It will even allow you to attack a weak army behind strong blocking army. The way it works is that if the final movement ends in an "attack", be it on a settlement or other army it allows you to do it. *The player can do it too!* Hence ZOC blocking only really works in preventing an army marching past ZOC and stopping behind you. Sucks but it is what it is.

You can also "retreat" through a ZOC. I've seen the AI lose, retreat through a ZOC and then on the next turn sack a settlement - LMAO to be honest. Naval engagements where the "retreat" can be longer than normal movement are even worse; in Empire you "won" - the AI "retreated" out of range, and then next turn blockades your trading port crashing your economy.

Honestly, this is really a campaign killer for me. Without being able to block off certain areas of the map, the game becomes far less strategic and I spend more time chasing armies around. Holding Blackfire pass is meaningless.
