Default The Gates of the Moon

"The Arryns raised the Gates, in the days where they still wore the falcon crown and ruled the Vale as kings. The Eyrie was their summer seat, but when the snows began to fall the court would make its descent. Some would say the Gates are as royal as the Eyrie."

A party from House Wickenden arrived at the Gates of the Moon, bringing with them both ser Artys Waxley and his sister, Lady Jeyne.

Seeing the banners of House Waxley approaching the keep, Ser Waymar orders the gates opened, and the two to be escorted inside the formidable castle.
They meet him inside the throne room, seated on the central throne on the dais, surrounded by his family. Leaning forward, he watches carefully as they are escorted into the great hall.

"House Waxley comes to the Gates, I see. Welcome." With a stern voice he spoke, and a gaze as cold as the winter snows to match.

Ser Artys and lady Jeyne smiled and bowed. "Many thanks, m'lord" she spoke. "Thank you for receiving us. It is time for house Arryn to come down from their mountain to retreat to the Gates." Lord Artys said. "I came to see if everything is ready for their kin and court to make their descent." Artys said. "I am sure Lord Jon is eager to come here, such a grand castle, Royal even, much larger then the Eyrie. I must congratulate you, it is a fine castle and a good addition for house Royce. How is your cousin at Runestone?"

"She fares well enough, and is stubborn as her father." He replied with a low grumble. "She is young, and unmarried; I offered her my eldest, but she refused me." At the mention of Lord Arryn, he nods, and drums his fingers on the armrest of the throne.
"Indeed, I sent a raven to the Eyrie informing Lord Jon that everything here has been accounted for. They shall be well accommodated here, as you say, it is spacious, even kingly in its size." His voice was filled with pride, for indeed, the Gates were a grand seat, enough to house perhaps even the largest of lordly courts.

"Has she?" He inquired. "But your soon looks like a fine lad. Sometimes young woman don't know what to do."

"A feast shall be held at the gates, as you might heard, our younger sister is to be wed to Lord Jon. It is their wish to be married this winter, so your home will be host to this grand event. Lucky for all of us, you kept it in good shape."

Kept it in good shape? I'm the Lord of this bloody castle, Ser. Why ever did Arryn want to marry such a dullard's sister?

    "Aye, I have."
With a frown, he leaned forward in the chair, his two sneering eyes studying Waxley more closely. Royce was envious; he had wished for his own daughter, or perhaps his cousin, to be wed to Lord Jon.
"The food stores are full to bursting, I've recently got hold of some grain from the Riverlands, and managed to hunt some game in the woods before the snows set in. They shall not want for food while they are under this roof."

    My roof.

Lady Jeyne saw her brother and lord Royce talking together. She observed the face of lord Royce, whom seemed to be spare in his smiles and rather rash. Not unwise. "I think, what my brother meant was that this castle really benefited from your rule. This castle will host a marvelous feast for the wedding, and it is certainly ready for it. I think even a Targaryen would wants to be wed here." she smiled and laughed. "And they should.".
She turned to her brother and then to the lord Royce. "But that was not the only reason we came.." she hinted to her brother. Gods be damned, if she wasn't married by the end of this Winter, it would be her lot to become a septa of her future nieces.

"Ah, yes.. yes." Artys said. "We came to your lordship to discuss a marriage alliance between our houses. Mayhap's a marriage with your cousin Lady Royce, one of your daughters.. or a marriage between your heir and my sister here. Soon to be sister to the consort of the Vale."
Lady Jeyne was beautiful, slender, but also very ambitious and a bit forceful.

Stark and his party are observed curiously by the knights of the Vale as they approach the gates, for the banner of the black wolf is alien to them. Nonetheless, the gates open, and they are escorted into the spacious great hall, which would be dank and cold if not for the hearths that were dotted around the walls. High in the hall itself hang intricate tapestries and animal trophies, although for how long they have been there none are certain.
Ser Waymar observes the Northman from high on his throne, allowing himself a proud smirk that his raven had been answered after all, for initially he had grown furious at the lack of a reply.

"Lord Brandon Stark. Welcome to the Gates of the Moon. Your arrival here in person was quite... Unexpected."
Royce grumbled, flanked by his two sturdy sons.

"My eldest, Raymar, one of the finest knights of the Vale, is unwed. Isn't that right boy?"
Waymar grunted, forcefully nudging the lad who stood next to him. Tall and stout, the eldest son of Royce would perhaps be considered handsome, were he not always wearing some form of grimace. Looking from his father, to Jeyne, Ser Raymar nodded his head.

    "Aye milady. I am unwed."
Raymar replied, his tone bearing the same gruffness that his father was known for. "I would be honoured to be married to such a beautiful and noble lady of the Vale." Sincere enough, at least.

Waymar nodded, content. His son wasn't a charmer, but he was dutiful, good with a sword, and capable of doing what needed to be done.

"The honour is all mine; house Royce is among the oldest of the houses in Westeros; far more so than mine." she complimented. She had watched him since the moment she walked in the room. He was quite handsome, but especially tall and strong. She could have done lots worse. One day he would be lord of his own castle, this was a very well made match.

"Splendid!" ser Artys said. "I think we have found an agreement. My sister here is about 20 years old; she is ready to be wed as soon as possible. We will join our houses, we will bring stability in the Vale. For we will be family soon."

Aye, I tend to perform the unexpected. Brandon replied, he didn't stink of booze this afternoon.. at least not too badly, though the sent of swamp water still clung to his clothing. Ya sent a raven not too long ago, offering the hand of your daughter. I thought it prudent to come and see ya, and her, if we'd be bound.

Waymar chuckled mirthlessly, more of a cough than laughter.

"We will be, indeed. Stability is what the Vale needs, especially with such a young Lord as Jon. He needs guiding hands, loyal men and women to help him shape his rule."

OOC: I hate small wedding RP's lol. Is it okay if we just say they're married?

Lady Perra entered the hall in a graceful sky-blue dress, aware that she her would be husband had arrived, the Northman. Remaining composed, she fixed him with a calm gaze. Like her brothers and father, she was tall and strong, with wide hips; perhaps not as fair as her cousin, the Widow of Runestone, but her large brown eyes and soft face made her fairly pretty, at least.

"Naturally, Lord Stark. Naturally. Here's my eldest daughter, Perra, as I spoke of. She's a good woman, and she'd serve any Lord well as a wife."
While steely and often grumpy, Ser Waymar was proud of his children, and it showed in his voice.

    .
Victory she thought; I wouldn't die a maiden and one day I'll have a castle and a Lord of her own. "Our children will be cousins to the lords of the Vale." She said.

Ooc: fine by me. Perhaps a Raven in the treat to be clear?

He looked Perra over. I'd agree to that. Stark replied. As long as she'll consent to being wed before the weirwood, I'll take her to wife. He coughed, long riding in the cold had given him a sickness of sorts. But I gotta ask, she wont knife me in my sleep.. will she? He questioned with a smirk. Lots of bad blood between the Vale and the North.

"Of course she will. Some of my blood still keep to the Old Gods." Leaning back in his throne, Royce drummed his fingers on the arm-rest, as was his wont.
"There was bad blood between the Vale and the North, true. But since mad old Aurane died along with Maelys, you lot aren't my enemies. If you ask me, you never were." Waymar scratched his beard to fill the short silence.
"Will you be requiring quarters here for the night, Lord? Or do you wish to ride back to the North immediately?"

I'll take a rest for the spell, it'll be nice to have some fresh ale and a warm bed for a night. Stark replied.

With news about the King's death spreading from the capital and Lord Jon Arryn inhabiting during the Winter time the proud Gates of the Moon, it was Ser Denys Arryn, who informed his nephew, more than pale in the face,
that Ser Lyonel Arryn has killed Aerys II. for reasons unknown.
It was a shock for the young Lord, as he knew that it would probably have consequences as again his family had disgraced the realm. Unsure, but with tears in his eyes, which he barely could hold back, the Lord told Ser Denys to take care of needed measures before he searched for his wife, Lady Denyse. Yet knowing that he had to react and disgrace this foul act of a Kingguard member, to whom House Arryn had no contact for years, he needed to calm down his sorrow, as during this dark winter, Denyse seemed to be the only light he had so far.
