Default How to add starting units?

    Hi everyone,

First post on the forum; looks like a knowledgeable place.

I have downloaded the editor and have watched a few tutorial videos on unit creation, but maybe I missed the piece that shows how to create starting unit assets in game campaigns. (Maybe because tutorials were made for Rome 2.)

Background: looking to add starting units to the Vampire Counts campaign. (Specifically, removing all existing units and adding 2 Varghulfs.)

Can someone give me some advice about how to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean so that when you start a campaign, you've already got 2 Varghulf's in your army?
If so, you'd need to use the Assembly Kit.
Download the Assembly Kit from Steam - Library - Tools.
Navigate to wherever it downloaded, eg C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\assembly_kit\raw_data\db
    Delete the file "TWaD_validation.xml"
Open the Assembly Kit and go Tools - DAVE
Then View - Table Launcher and type in "start_pos_land_units" and click on it.
In the top right corner click "Add Record", and choose what type of unit you want to add, and for what lord.
Also make sure you put the number of soldiers to 100 (100%, as opposed to only like 50% of the unit alive) and unique to false.
    Varghulf = wh_main_vmp_mon_varghulf
Manfred von Carstein = "b:Vampire Counts names:names_vmp_vampire_counts:172:von Carstein blablahblah."
    Heinrich Kemmler = "b:Vampire Counts names:names_vmp_vampire_counts:173:Kemmler blahblahblah".

Then click Apply and Close in the top right corner, then on the top toolbar click Export - Export Changes to Binary.
Then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\assembly_kit\binaries and open "BOB.AssemblyKit.exe"
Under the working data column (middle one), expand campaigns - main_warhammer and tick the startpos.esf then the two little boxes that popup, process startpos and make packfile. Then click start in the bottom right corner.
Warhammer will boot up to the loading screen, wait like 30 seconds and the mod will process.
Then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\assembly_kit\retail\data, grab the mod.pack and move it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\data
You can now launch the mod when you launch TW Warhammer. Have fun (if this even is what you're asking about).

Because you're edting the startpos, theres a possibility it'll conflict with big mods such as overhauls and stuff that also edit the startpos.

This is an incredibly detailed and helpful response. I will definitely give this a shot. Thank you so much.

You might actually be wanting start_pos_starting_general_option_additional_units. If you edit the other table then that's what kemmler and the AI VC faction would start with.
