    Default Vampire Counts: Ruins Colonization?

Hey, I'm doing a Vampire Counts run and I'm far enough where Chaos is in and razing cities left and right. I've read that factions can go to razed cities and colonize them for a very high cost. However, I can't do that with the Vampire Counts. I move an army to a ruined city and Colonise is unselectable.

"Your race cannot occupy settlements of this racial type."

I would provide a screenshot but Steam / Creative Assembly likes to tuck away my screenshots in places I can't find.

What's the name of the settlement you were trying to recolonise?

PS: Steam puts your screenshots into a folder that is, shockingly enough, called "screenshots". Just use the windows search function and you should find the folder in no time.

It could be a Dwarf settlement, the Vampire Counts can't colonise/occupy Dwarf or Greenskin settlements unless you download the following mod: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...omatic-Options

That's a weird set of heavy restrictions in a Total War game.

it means to add a layer of difficulty because if you can destroy a faction then their threat to you is gone so now it's very hard to do so unless you use said mod

I've used the mod. Funnily it makes the varg pretty badass in my one game. Instead of razing they colonised the entire north and some dwarf strongholds, was really tricky to dislodge them.
When I did as vampire counts enemy loved me because I had some so much anti chaos. I had trade agreements with pretty much everyone.

That's a mountain hold. Only Dwarves and Greenskin can colonise those.

Does anyone even read those tips that are up there when you start up campaign? There are many people out there complaining about not being able to conquer cities, not having cities as Chaos, etc. I dont say this is the case, probably you missed that ruin city was a mountain hold. I'm not trying to rant on anyone, but I thought that TW players aren't some casual CoD fans, that skip all the info and just press the fire button.

It works out pretty well in practice. You can still wipe factions by systematically razing their stuff, but it adds an extra factor to the cost/utility equation. Plus for once you don't have to paint the map and (especially when Chaos hits in force later on), you can get some real grand alliances out of it. As the VC, I killed off the main Dwarf faction and then actually made friends with all the minor dwarf holds - they make for good trade partners and once the storm breaks, you can genuinely secure alliances there. Lots of VC players try to team up with the Greenskin, but I found the minor dwarf factions (once you take out the main faction to prevent them from confederating) are a hell of a lot more reliable and trustworthy in the long run.

VC campaign is easy due you got powerful melee units. I can easily unlock my grave unit then w/ crypt ghouls start destroying the empire and i got my banshee best agent for VC. With the dwarfs just allied w/ them and avoid fighting them due they are good buffer zone w/ greenskin.
