    Default Oldstones

Walder and Lothar made the short journey to Seaguard. Edwyn, Lady Mallister, and all their children traveled with them as well under the banners of the Twins. Walder had been stonewalled by the Tullys time and time again, so now he would try a different tactic. The usually jovial man had been replaced by a sneering, constantly angry force. Walder the warrior had been replaced by Walder the politician. As the snow fell outside the gates of Seaguard, Walder announced himself to the gate guards, expecting the party to be welcomed into the Keep. Edwyn held their newborn baby boy while Lady Mallister held the second youngest Aed and his sister, in the meantime, ran alongside the horses playing.

Lord Mallister is overjoyed that his daughter and child have come to visit him in his domain. The gates open immediately and the family is brought to a jovial Lord Mallister who seems more concerned with playing with the children rather than addressing the reason for Frey's arrival.

Walder strode forward amidst his granchildren playing with their maternal grandfather. "Lord Mallister!" he said with a laugh "how good it is to see you again." he shook the man's hand. Lothar and Edwyn likewise came forward and gave their greeting. "Well this is quite the reunion! As you can see the marriage between my son and your daughter has been most productive indeed, blessed by the gods! That one will sit the oaken chair one day as Lord of the Twins!" Walder commented, pointing to Edywn's eldest son. Lady Mallister, meanwhile, conversed with her friends and family she had left five years ago.

In the midst of this, Lothar Frey stepped forward. "Greetings, Lord Mallister. I wanted to introduce myself, I am Lothar Frey. It is a pleasure to meet the grandfather of my nieces and nephews at last."

Walder called for wine, cheese, and bread. "Yes, this is Lothar, my son. he's here for a purpose as I'm sure you guessed. I've run into a bit of trouble with young Warrick Tully. He's just a lad of eighteen years, doing his best of course, but I'm afraid he's made some rash decisions. He's far too itnerested in the goings on in the Capital and less interested in affairs closer to home. I have petitioned him several times for access to Oldstones, a land under your control I am sur eyou're aware." Walder took a sip of wine. "Anyway, it is my intention to fund a project to restore the Keep with my son Lothar at the head of things." He nibbled some cheese. "We are men of a certain age, Mallister, and experience. I'm sure you see the sense in constructing a new Keep to ensure thesafety of these lands! I propose the following: If you allow my son Lothar access to Oldstones, I shall fund the project of building the castle. Lothar shall be Lord of this new Keep but swear fealty directly to House Mallister. THe friendship between our two Houses may yet develop further. What do you say?"

OOC: Charisma trait for character making the proposition? You'll get a +15 for the marriage, but a -10 for asking him to go against his Lord Paramount's wishes. Probably a -5 for essentially asking for some of his lands. So without charisma 10/20.

Walder has +3 charisma, though I'll add Walder is not asking for Oldstones to become part of his sworn lands, rather that his son get the lands and swear fealty to House Mallister

Lord Mallister stands back up and smiles at Walder before shaking his hand and then the rest of the older arrivals before answering Walder.

"Yes the marriage seems to have blossomed into something quite beautiful hasn't it?"

He pauses as he greets Lothar now as well. With the food and wine brought Lord Mallister simply sits back and sips his cup as he listens, betraying nothing of his thoughts on the proposal. After taking yet another sip of the wine, Lord Mallister returns his answer to the Freys.

"What you have said has much sense in it Frey, but you put me in quite a difficult position. My own liege has already ruled against your proposal and there is already a lord who presides over Oldstones. While I would like to rebuild it and return it to a fully functioning castle, I am bound to respect the orders of my liege and respect the titles and holdings of my vassals that are under my protection. So while I would love to have granted you this boon, I must respectfully decline your proposal for the time being. Perhaps you can sway Tully to see the light in time and I am even willing to assist you in that, but for now I will not directly violate his wishes. I hope you can understand I came to this decision with no ill will in mind whatsoever."

    10/20 base chance
    +15 marriage
-10 going against orders of LP
-5 taking land from vassal and giving to another
    +3 Charisma

    13/20 chance (1-13 success)
    Roll-17
