Terrain bug during battle
Before I start I would like to say I stumbled upon the Total War series and TWCenter only a few weeks ago; I admit, as soon as I clicked on the Suebi campaign and started for the first time, love blossomed. Slowly but surely, over the next 3 days my knowledge of history and the game's features went head-to-head. I oversaw my peoples' migration from our small home province into bordering brother-lands, the coalition and eventual fall of our ancestral brethren to the combined Suebi-Lugii forces. Realizing far too soon the limits of the CAI & BAI, by my 7th province, I quit. Restart on Legendary. Fast Forward a week of constant restarts due to skimming play tutorials, YouTube videos, and generally misunderstanding what the jump from normal to legendary "difficulty" means:
Fed up, I thought maybe I had lost it. Did I install improperly? Am I no longer the Strategos once renowned far and wide?
Then I found the Center for all things Total War, and inside, its' community and bountiful cache of mods.
Oh, rejoice!
---------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, to the root of the problem.
On the battle map, even when in the placement phase, white polygons (usually in the form of various rectangles and squares) appear all over the ground level. They do not interact nor interfere with the trees, but as I move the camera, they seem to shift bond together. When zooming in, the blocks appear 2d, as if portraits hanging slightly too low on an invisible wall. Zoom out, they become 2.5d.
This happens only on SS. Installed Files on top of SS6.3 are:
SS 6.4 >
Bugfix Compilation 1.7 >>
G5 Settlement Tweaks >>>
G5 ReallyBadAI Battle System 5.7 >>>>
Options turned on in the SS Setup menu:
Savage AI
Horse Breeders Guilds in Cities
Longer Assimilation
G5 ReallyBadAI Hardcore addon
Spying Reduced Dread
Permanent Watchtowers
2TPY
Start method for Stainless Steel under current settings:
Start Steam>Medieval II: Total War>Play>Play Medieval II: Total War Americas (I renamed the SS6.3 folder to Americas to start the game this way as an added measure in hopes of avoiding any issues)
It is playable at this point
-----------------------------------------------------
DIFFERENT ISSUE: I should note as well - The first few times SS was installed, after the average first turn as England (always tried first) the game would CTD. This would happen right after ending my turn, either during AI Sicily's Turn or the moment turn 2 begins for me. The ONLY THING that helped was checking the system.log.txt
This would bring up at the very end:
[system.io] [info] exists: missing mods/SS6.3/preferences/player.txt
My fix was simply creating two new blank txt documents, one named player.txt to appease the Total War God and preferences.txt due to glancing over a similar issue.
Hope this helps for anyone in the future.
-----------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, can a brother get a hand?
P.S. 1. If this issue has already been brought up - I did check but did not find it obviously, apologies. 2. As I am new, unfortunately I don't know how to box certain text in posts.

As I cannot edit my posts at the moment, moderator:
Please cut and paste the different issue section below the last two lines of text, or completely crop it from the post and have it updated to a list? (I realized afterwards where I put it may confuse others even if read in context)

Re: Terrain bug during battle
Update: Problem has nothing to do with terrain at all. Must have been corrupted unit files; after a clean reinstall of M2 and all mod, it was nowhere to be found.
The CTD with England seems to be a rare if non-existent occurrence now. Likely, it was also because of remnant mod/wrecked M2 files, OR conflicts between the SS Mod Manager options.
That I will check.
BUG/CTD ISSUE FIXED BUT NOT FULLY RESOLVED, DO NOT CLOSE THREAD

Re: Terrain bug during battle
