    -CASTERLY ROCK-

Casterly Rock was the prize of Lann's ambitions, who founded a line that still rules not only over the lands of Casterly but over the whole West, and they have done so for millennia, the Lannister. Their power is cemented in the immense wealth that lays under the mountains, crags and hills of the Westerlands; in fact even their seat, Casterly Rock, is an enormous gold mine. The wealth and power of the dynasty are known even in remote lands like Asshai, where Lannisters are said to have a palace built with gold.

Casterly Rock is actually a colossal rock beside the Sunset Sea. Some say that the Rock looks like a lion in repose when the sun sets. The base of the Rock has great sea-carved caverns. Hundreds of mineshafts penetrate the lower parts of the Rock, where many veins of red and yellow gold gleam untouched in the stone even after millennia of mining. The Rock itself has been measured at three times the height of the Wall or the Hightower of Oldtown (so around 2,100 feet tall). The Rock is almost two leagues long from west to east, and riddled throughout with tunnels, dungeons, storerooms, barracks, halls, stables, stairways, courtyards, balconies, and gardens. The Rock even has a Godswood with queer, twisted weirwood with tangled roots. The fortress also has a port inside it, complete with docks, wharves, and shipyards; the sea has carved great caves into its western face, natural gates deep and wide enough for cogs to enter. The Lion's Mouth is the huge natural cavern that forms the main entrance to the Rock; it arches 200 feet high from floor to ceiling. Over the centuries it has been widened and improved upon. Now, twenty horsemen can ride abreast up its broad steps.

The fortress is carved out of a great stone hill and its natural defenses are further enhanced with walls and other structures. It is tunneled through with halls and chambers, with a huge keep at its peak. Gold-producing mines are still productive in the hill.
Three key rooms within the Rock are the Golden Gallery (with its gilded ornaments and walls; an immense hall, with tall pillars where the statues of every Lannister ruler are exposed, one after another), the Lion's Mouth, and the Hall of Heroes, where the Lannisters and their close kin who have died valiantly are interred. Chambers furbished and enriched by many generations of Lannisters.
From below the Rock thunder can be heard, where the sea comes in. In the bowels of the Rock are rooms where caged lions were once kept, and cells for the worst prisoners. There is a place called the Stone Garden within the castle; it contains a weirwood a tenth the size of Raventree Hall's.

The golden-haired Lannisters have a long and glorious history, first they were Kings of the Rock and then serving as Wardens of the West under the Targaryens.

    • "All the gold in Casterly Rock...”: A famously rich region, the vaults of Casterly Rock are said to be filled with more gold than those of any other city or castle in Westeros. All characters start with an additional 50,000 Gold Dragons.
    • Talent for Coin: It is one thing to amass a fortune, and another to expand it. The Lannisters have done just that for centuries and the Lord of House Lannister get +10% income per year.
    • Ancient Fortress: The Rock was built in or before the Age of Heroes, making it at least 8,000 years old, possibly older. It is carved into a great stone hill, giving it excellent natural defenses, which are added to by thick walls and towers. Casterly Rock has never been taken in recorded history. It is the second largest castle behind Harrenhal. +3 to defense rolls and can garrison an additional 200% of its levy. If the fortress does not have at least 1,000 men protecting it, -1 to siege rolls.
    • The Bowels of the Rock: The rocks prisons are renowned as the foulest and darkest prisons in the world, worse than the black cells. -3 to escape rolls when captured in the rock.
    • The Harbor of the Rock: An unusual site, the Rock even has a harbor carved into the mountians complete with wharves and dockyards for trading ships. Not big enough to hold it's own fleet but surely large enough to allow trade directly to the Lannister fortress. +5% income bonus.

    LORD AND HOUSEHOLD

    -HOUSE LANNISTER OF CASTERLY ROCK-

    LORD TYWIN LANNISTER

    Aged 35
    Status: Married, to Serra Lefford.
Children: Jaime and Cersei Lannister (twins, aged 12), Tybolt Lannister (aged 11), Balon Lannister (9), Mycella Lannister (7) Aurelia Lannister (5).

    Traits (7):
    +3 Survival = +3 Survival.
    (+4 from trade)=+4 Charisma.
    +3 Battles (+1 from retainer)=+3 Battles.
    +2 Duels (+1 from retainer)=+2 Duels.

BIOGRAPHY: Tywin is the young heir of Tytos Lannister and he is nothing like his sire. When his father proved unable to exert his authority Tywin grabs the reins willingly. If Tytos would laugh Tywin frowns instead. Lannister is calculating, intelligent, politically astute, ruthless and controlling. His life goal is to recover the lost prestige of his house and restoring its authority over the West. He grows increasingly weary of the insulting and arrogant behaviour of Reyne and already plots their demise. Even if young he has a very powerful presence, combined with an intimidating gaze: tall, slender and broad-shouldered his gaze is steely, his green eyes freckled with gold. Tywin's hair is like molten gold, like his father’s and grandsire’s. Married Lady Serra Lefford in 263 AC, two kids were born from his union in 265 AC, twins: Jaime and Cersei Lannister. After his father's death in 266 AC he assumed the Lannister's inheritance and legacy, becoming Lord Paramount of the Westerlands and Warden of the West. Cautious and ambitious he will use his newly found authority to expand the power and prestige of House Lannister in Westeros.

    SER KEVAN LANNISTER

    Aged 31
Status: Married, to Lady Dorna Swyft.
Children: Lancel Lannister (9) and Orson Lannister (8 - born with disabilities), Jeor Lannister (6), Geron Lannister (5).
    Traits (6):
    +2 Survival
    +2 Duels
    +2 Battles

BIOGRAPHY: A stout man, Kevan is more a follower than a leader. And while it is said that he never had a thought that his elder brother did not have first, he is by no means stupid; he simply recognized the superiority of his brother at an early age. Kevan has always followed Tywin willingly and without frustration. Tireless, prudent and unfailingly obedient, Kevan is perhaps Tywin’s sole confidant alongside his sister-in-law, Lady Joanna Lannister. He was given as a bride Lady Dorna Swyft, several years his junior, by her father Ser Harys of Cornfield after he couldn’t afford to pay his debts with Casterly Rock. The young Dorna is a gentle soul, devout and only comfortable at home among friends and kin. She, however, is completely plain, chinless, chicken-legged and flat-chested. Dorna strives to gain his young husband’s affections.

    • SER TYGETT LANNISTER. Aged 24. Married Lady Myranda Whent in 266 AC. A son: Daven Lannister (7), Falon Lannister (5), Lalia Lannister (4).
    • Equipment: Full Plate (+20 hp, +1 Battles, +6 Survival, +5 post-battle condition rolls) and A single handed weapon and shield (+2 Duels, +4 Survival, +6 hp)

      • Traits (5): +2 Duels, +2 Survival, +1 Battle
      • BIOGRAPHY: Wild and fiery, Tygett does not submit eagerly to his fate as third son. Landless and dependant on his elder brother's good-will he became a bitter and angry man, deeply resentful of his place in the line of succession. Further pulled away by the birth of Jaime and Lancel Lannister Tygett devoted to arms as a way to vent his rage. The wrathful lion might be an issue when the time comes, so Tywin already looks for a castle to grant his brother. In 266 AC he was married to Lady Myranda Whent, a maiden from the ruling house of Harrenhall.
      • Father of Joanna Lannister (6)

    • GERION LANNISTER. 20
    • Genna Lannister (30)

    RETAINERS

He is led to the Lord's solar, where Tywin Lannister greets him. His lord father was bedridden and ill and Tywin had to assume command in the West. Kevan was sent to the capital to act as Master of Coin in his absence. Tywin's green eyes scan Frey as he approaches him, led by a valet. The servant is dimissed and they're left alone by the sole exception of a fair-haired woman sitting before the fireplace, Lady Serra Lefford.

"Lothar Frey, what kind of bussiness brings you here, to Casterly Rock?"

    Said Tywin.

"Lord Lannister" he began. "I am pleased to find you in good health. This cursed winter has laid many men low." He executed a short bow. "I have come to discuss many thing with you, but first I will dispense with the most important item. I am in need of a wife. I have searched long and hard but found no suitable candidates. I've come to request the hand of Genna Lannister, to take as my own. Such a marriage would cement an alliance not only between House Lannister and House Frey, but the Westerlands and the entirety of the Northern Riverlands."

"What does House Lannister stand to gain, Ser Lothar?"

    Said Tywin calmly.

"Forgive my bluntness but my sister is a precious jewel and I'm not prone to throw it away at the first chance"

He looked at him, studying his face.

"Are you heir to the Twins, Ser Lothar? I presume you are"

"I am not" he replied. "that honor lies with my brother, Lord Edywn Frey." He said at last. Several courtiers of the Lannisters muttered their dissent. "My good uncle Stevron, was like me no heir to the Twins. He currently occupies the Bloody Gate as Knight of the Bloody Gate and enjoys a marriage with House Arryn. He now sits perhaps one of the most powerful and influential lords of the Vale." Lothar paused to allow this to set in. "I, likewise, have ambitions. I shall be the lord of my own Keep. My Lord Father, Walder Frey, has championed interests in the establishment of a new keep at Oldstones. These attempts have been blocked by House Tully. Lord Warrick Tully is a young man, younger even than I. With the right pressure he might yield and allow me to establish a new keep." He trailed off. "But regardless of what the future holds, House Frey is the most powerful House in the Riverlands, second only to Tully."

    "Second"

    Said Tywin raised a finger.

"Second isn't enough. Not is enough the promise of being appointed as lord of a ruined castle in the near future. Had you been Lord of Riverrun itself or had my father received you Genna would be yours to marry. But you found me..."

His clothes were heavily embroidered with golden lions. It was well-tailored and suited his lean figure like a glove.

"I need something set in stone, so to speak. I was going to send proposals to great houses like Hightower, Florent, Stark or even your liege, Lord Tully. So, why should I chose a landless Frey?"

"Landless Freys move Kingdoms." He answered. "My Uncle, Stevron, a loyal vassal of House Arryn now, earned his Keep through royal appointment and service to House Arryn. My own father has never been defeated in battle." Lothar cleared his throat. "You could indeed choose from among those houses. Though you would probably not find any suitable partners. My sister married one of the last eligible Tullys, Stark is likewise sonless at the moment. But House Frey hjas always bridged the gap between these Houses to begin with. House Stark, House Tully, all are allies of House Frey. The Friendship of House Frey is worth a crossing. It is worth access to the Riverlands, and it is worth access to a reserve of manpower second to none in the Riverlands. Our star is rising."

He scoffed. "Why anyone would propose marriage to any houses in the Reach during this time...they are most unfavored. The King will keep them under his thumb."

    He looks at him quizzicaly.

"However, I expect something more from you. Become something greater than a mere landed knight, Ser Lothar. House Lannister honors his debts and his alliances"

"The only way I become landed within the next year is if Lord Warrick Tully is convinced that I should become the Lord of Oldstones." he replied. "This is something Lord Mallister has sworn to support. If you added your voice to this chorus, Tully might be persuaded to agree." he drew closer. "Oldstones is more than a mere fortress. It offers a wealth of knowledge, of science. I have conferred with the maesters ant they agree. This site would be a treasure trove of discovery."

The cold had preserved his father's body well. The corpse endured the seven days with little decay, clad in crimson brocade and a scepter on his hand. He was no warrior, not quite a lord, but still he was the rightful master of the West and his funeral had been splendid. A show of might and wealth. After a week Lord Tywin could finally settle on the lord's solar and occupy the quarters that once belonged Lord Tytos. The wetnurse he had loved was stripped of wealth and clothes and paraded like a common whore through Lannisport. Now Tywin sat at the Rock, waiting the oaths of his vassals and wondering about the realm...

They are welcomed at the great hall, carved on the very rock, with great pillars holding a vaulted roof. The walls lavishly decorated with statues, reliefs and tapestries. Guards and courtiers lined the walls. In a golden throne sits Lord Lannister, wearing brocade and gold. His green eyes stare at Whent as he approaches the throne.

"Be welcome to the Rock, Lord Whent. What brings you here?"

The courtiers whispered but Tywin raised a hand and everyone went silent. Certainly Tywin considered the proposal interesting. Harrenhall was strong and controlled the God's Eye and the mouths of the river.

    "A good proposal Lord Whent"

He gestured towards a lad, rather tall and strong. He wore his golden hair long and sported a pair of formidable whiskers. He looked sour, angry, unruly and wild. Tygett steps forward.

"Brother, would you accept this match?"

Said Tywin arching an eyebrow. Tygett looked at Whent and at his brother alternatively. He nodded.

"Aye, not a bad match precisely"

    Tywin nodded in turn.
