Default Something for newcomers! - TW:WH Beginners Guide

    Hey guys!

I feel like Total War has a lot of newcomers to the franchise as a result of the Warhammer tie in, and so I thought it'd be a nice idea to build a beginner's guide of sorts to help. It will have multiple episodes, and I was wondering what you guys think might need talking about?

The first episode (which you can watch here, or below) discusses the "rock, paper, scissors" unit hierarchy, as it applies in it's most rudimentary form.

Let me know if you notice any issues, and as I said, I'm looking for suggestions on any particular topics you think might need coverage! I have quite a few episodes planned out, and I really hope this guide helps people to some degree.

    Cheers!

You will find very few newcomers here on TWC .

What i do notice is that newcomers and even some veterans dont know the use of ALT and CTRL to move and rotate selected units without the need to group them, also many donno the significance of charge bonus etc.

Another topic could be the debug camera which is essential in mp.

EDIT: btw youtube links work like this

You're probably right! I just remember my own introduction to TWC - it was when Medieval 2 came out, and I'd been playing since Shogun. And I still didn't know half the mechanics!
I have an episode on "positioning" coming up soon, and ALT / CTRL is a great suggestion that I'll include in that episode.
And the charge bonus is something I'll cover in my upcoming "movement" episode in which I'll also talk about walking/running, fatigue, and counter-charging.
And I didn't even think about the debug camera being a tip - that's great!

Thanks for the suggestions [and the YouTube embed pointer hah]

Thanks! Glad I could help make life easier!

I've got a new episode up [added it to the first post as well].
This one deals with movement commands. It's been requested here, on reddit, and on YouTube that I cover this, so here we are:

The latest episode covers the topics of morale and routing. Not every engagement is about killing everybody - sometimes it's about scaring them away!

    nice videos..

i have this problem.. I don't seem to be able to change some configurations. For example, i find it very annoying that "w" or "a" etc make the units move, as i like to use these buttons for my camera. I have tried to assign these kind of unit-movements controls to "ctrl+d" etc and so on but the game won't take em. Any thoughts ?

That's strange. Maybe check your camera settings in the game. The "Total War" setting should allow you to move the camera with w,a,s,d etc. That's what I use all the time!
Let me know if that does the trick.

In the meanwhile, here's video #6 - a guide on the various ways to attack.

party elite has using the in game unit controls down. in your breaking the enemy line tutorial I saw you have your knights go around the enemy infantry very cleverly, usually that requires a pause for me and a series of orders using ctrl. got me thinking of the benefit of learning all the quick keys.

Episode 17 covers a tactic that works well when you're outnumbered. A great way to defeat in detail, especially if you're playing as the dwarves!
