    Default Rebuilding of Summerhall

A large wagon train approaches the ruined Royal Castle of Summerhall. It is obvious King Aerys has decided to rebuild his family's ancient castle palace. Joiners began to unload tools and timber, masons begin cutting stone, while a horde of peasant laborers descend upon the ruins, respectfully removing corpses and beginning to clear the rubble. Master Builders walk among the ruins, checking which pillars and supports are still fit to bear weight. It is a grandiose operation, and it is clear that it will take many months for it to be restored to its full glory...

OOC: Would Baratheon know this is taking place? Seeing as it is located in his kingdom and all

Ooc: Yeah, he'd know Aerys was rebuilding the Royal Castle Palace.

(I'll mod this. The way I'm going to handle it is the same way the Crow's Barrens thread is being handled. Of course investing the funds required by the rules will rebuild the keep, but anything additional will require either substantial RP effort OR paying extra to see if you can find something. Once I determine enough has been done, I will create a roll template, post it, roll it, and show the results. As it stands right now simply paying the funds required to rebuild the Keep grants 0/20 chance of finding anything.)

Even as a long and cold winter set in, the reconstruction of Summerhall continued. Hour after frigid hour was spent working in the freezing cold, and Master craftsman and laborer alike muttered about the bitter chill. Sculptors took three times as long to carve their work, many of them resorting to taping their tools to their hands in order to keep a firm hold of them.

The only men with any decent lot in this hard, hard environment were the carpenters, who had access to the pick of the firewood from the scraps of their day to day jobs. Indeed, a permanent fire could always be found burning near the workplaces of the many joiners employed.

The only way to keep warm was to work, and so the men worked with a vengeance. Summerhall had begun as a ruin, but it had been cleared, and now it was simply a few old walls and pillars, with several cellar doors being uncovered as well.

They had started on the Northern Wing, and while the walls only currently stood at 2 foot high, it was obvious the direction the design had gone in. Open, warm, airy and spacious - an excellent stress busting retreat - but with a notable lack of defences. Indeed, the only defences were a few light gates and some battlements in certain loactions, it certainly wasn't intended as a military fortress, not by the designs anyway.

It was obvious the workers would work until the castle was finished, although nobody knew when that would be. Most of the stone and timber was ready, as were many of the crests and artwork, but only so much could be done in knee deep mud, the craftsman shouldered on though, praying to the Seven for an end to Winter and dry ground and warm days once more.

Hour after hour of meticulous work and construction. The front gates were finally nearing completion. They were large double gates, made out of polished timber, set in an arch of polished stone. Marble was inlayed on the gate pillars, red marble was set in the centre of the gate arch, shaped as a Targaryen dragon. The black marble on the gate posts was set in intricate swirls and patterns, making for a truly incredible masterpiece. It was obvious that this gate was the pride of many men's lives.

I'll use Poach's template since it seems reasonable:

    "0-50: Nothing interesting is found.
51-60: Evidence of the old layout is uncovered. Digging up the swampland around the three existing towers lead the builders to find old foundations that show where the other towers once stood, as well as the curtain wall.
61-70: the charred, twisted bodies of the victims of the fire are recognizable as black marks of ash against stone. A grizzly trophy.
71-80: A stockpile of arrowheads, hardened by the fire, is discovered. (?)
81-90: Twisted metal, clearly Valyrian steel, is discovered in clumps. Could this offer some explanation as how to manipulate it?
91-95: Large bones are discovered. When pieced together they form the shape of a man, but on a scale at least four times the size of a normal man. (read that giants dwelled close there)
96-99: An ancient text regarding the construction of crenulated walls is found and will aid the builders in creating a stouter keep
100: A knife of Valyrian steel is discovered, granting a +5 one handed weapon
    -------
BONUS 100: An egg is found

I will give you two such rolls. One now and one when the RP is closer to completion."
    --------------

    I rolled a 93, so:
91-95: Large bones are discovered. When pieced together they form the shape of a man, but on a scale at least four times the size of a normal man.

You'll need to be a bit more substantive in the next RP I think without adding negative modifiers. I know the post above was still a WIP and henceforth I didn't use any modifiers good or bad, but for what's on offer I'll expect a bit more.

OOC: Just noting that summer hall was built by targs after Aegon's landing. Long after the doom and the destruction of old knowledge like working VS. and you might want to sponge out some of the parts that seem to directly reference Moat Cailin. It would also make more sense to find the corpses of those that died rather than first men that couldn't have garrisoned a keep they didn't build.

ooc: I tried to wiki it, there's blessedly little written about Summerhall so I have to be sort of creative. I read up on the Stormlands a little to supplement what I rolled. It's pretty imperfect though. In terms of reworking VS, anything discovered would be a fraction in game of what would be needed to discover how to rework it.

Ooc: Aerys was secretly hoping to find an egg. That was the cause of the destruction after all. Maybe better luck next time.

That was Wip because I was at college and just ran out of time!

(Perhaps the rolls should concern the tragedy of Summerhall, such as the chance of finding Aegon V's body and crown? I recall LM found a crown and a dragon egg when he excavated this place a few games ago)

Ooc: LM is what inspired me. Want to remake the template and roll the first roll again or just give me the same number? I'd be well chuffed - to use English English - to get Aegon's body.

OOC: I found Aegon V's body (or supposedly what may have been his remains), the mace and shield of Maekar I and a petrified dragon egg. Didn't find a crown.

The only possible crown that could be found is Aegon III's which was worn by Aegon V. Maekar's crown was most likely recovered from the body of Maelys and Aerys wears the crown of Aegon IV, according to lore.

    OOC: Well the crown was possible, if I recall correctly, and that was what I was going off. See if I can pull up the original thread;

With the highly artistic and intricate walls and gates finished, the builders turned their attention into the interior of the castle. They began to erect a large central keep, although it was less a keep and more a palace. Wide, wide walkways, space left aside for gardens, and ornate pillars seemed to be the norm of this construction. From the size of the base, it was clear the palace was going to be very tall and magnificent. Master stonemason and goldsmiths worked for hours into the night to created the marble and precious metal ornaments for both the exterior and the interior.

Master carpenters laboured in huge canvas tents, spending hours on each tiny groove for every chair, meticulously carving detail after glorious detail into the furniture that would go into Summerhall. Most of the woodwork was stacked very carefully and then wrapped with thick waterproofed sheets. The entire project was behind time, and so the craftsmen were desperately trying to catch up in order to complete the castle palace.

Now the walls were completed, small units of guards manned the narrow battlements, fit for only two men to squeeze past each other. Summerhall was built for recreation, not to break armies on her iron walls. A steady supply of materials continued into the palace, with the Crown sparing very little expense in order to rebuild the ancient lands of House Targaryen. While the cold hard winter shouldered on, the tough and resilient builders worked hard, determined to be finished soon.
