After the demise of Satrap Archiselaus chaos erupted through the lands of Assyria. Central authority has crumbled while all sort of crimes are committed during the absence of any authority, bandits pillaging trade convoys, evil creatures raping, killing innocents for their pleasure and many kidnappings erupted throughout this once so prosperous satrapy. Already bandits are attempting to raid inside Babylonian lands, Antiochus could not do anything else but to take action, with the approval of the Regent, Antiochus decided to raise a large host of mercenaries to bring this satrapy to stability and peace once again.

Antiochus sends out several Macedonian riders to the various provinces of Assyria, due to the anarchy raging in those provinces they are each protected by a small escort. All the provinces of Assyria receive the same letter written by the satrap of Babylon, Antiochus.

To whoever is in charge of the Assyrian provinces

It has been months ago since Satrap Archiselaus has been cowardly murdered by an unknown assassin. Since that time things have been deteriorated considerably up to the point of near Anarchy. I have talked with the regent of the Macedonian Empire and he approves me of restoring stability and peace throughout these lands, so i ask whoever is in charge of the provinces to peacefully handover the provinces to me, the Satrap of Babylon, a refusal would not only mean disobeying me but also disobeying the Macedonian regent as he wants me take restore peace to these lands. I ask to consider this proposal wisely as only through cooperation we might restore peace and stability to these lands that have suffered enough under this state of anarchy, not only would make a refusal things worse but it would also means thousands of good lives being lost in battles, how many children and women will have to mourn for their husband in case of war?, too many i say!. I guarantee the Assyrian people and the current leaders of the provinces a good and honorable treatment under my rule if you coordinate with me. Choose wisely, men of Assyria.

The massive mercenary army of the satrap Antiochus has finally arrived in Anatha. Thousands upon thousands of Greeks and Indians stare at the walls of Anatha and elephants can be heard trumpeting in the background. They see many Shipri Tukul lining the walls of the city and it is clear that the natives have risen up to throw off Macedonian rule during the turmoil following Archesilaus' death. Ashurnasirpal, a local nobleman, has risen to take control of the province with the help of the population of native Asyrians in the province. He stands upon the walls ready either to speak with the Macedonians or defend his city from this new threat.

One of the Mercenary generals accompanied by a small host of soldiers approach the walls of Anatha.

People of Anatha, i bring a message from Antiochus, Satrap of Babylon. You are both outgunned and outnumbered by this army, it would be stupid to resist. Therefore i ask you to peacefully surrender your city to Antiochus, Satrap of Babyon. If you comply with this then the city shall be spared from destruction and its civilians be spared from the consequencces of war. My master asks you to spare a bloodbath, how many children and wives will have to mourn about their dead husbands?

If you surrender we will treat you well. But if you refuse the consequences will be harsh. Choose wisely.

The general then left back to his camp.

Should he refuse then :

• construct two battering rams and two ladders.

The main host is to be deployed at the Southern part.

• All units except the elephants and the Elite hoplites (whatever their name is) and the Thessalian heavy cavalry.

The smaller part is to storm from the Western gates.

• The elite units described above.

Battle orders

• The battle starts with all the Missile units unleashing their arrows/javelins/slingers upon their foes. This takes as long as until our hoplites are on the walls. (south)
• Then half the regular hoplites climb the ladders and attack anyone on the wall. (south)
• the other half of the regular hoplites use the ram to smash the southern gate and take it and clean it from any hostile forces, if done they will join with the other half on the walls and help the hoplites on the wall if needed. (south)
• The elite hoplites use the ram to smash down the gates (west)
• then the elite hoplites charge any potential enemy near to the gate. (west)
• then the Elephants and Thessalian cavalry will come the the elite hoplites aid. (west)
• then the hoplites will clean the western walls if there are any hostile forces present. (west)
• Then the the Western and and Southern parts will meet up.
• The elite Indian infantry is called upon to reinforce the positions.
• Then the united army will march to the centre untill all of the city is secured.

Ashurnasirpal shouts from the wall to the mercenary general and other mercenaries gathered below.

We would be willing to surrender on the condition that we remain autonomous. Half of our income shall go to Babylon and Antiochus will be recognized as our satrap and overlord. Then the mercenaries entered the city and get a little pause before departing again, this time to Nineveh province.

Antiochus and his horde of foreign mercenaries have reached the capital of the Assyrian province and matters have become far more complicated here than they have been elsewhere. An army is camped outside the city, apparently readying itself in an attempt to capture it. The city itself flies an Argead banner. Messages from both forces are received by Antiochus. The satrap of Babylon must read both and decide on a course of action for himself and his mercenary army.

Macedonian, We do not desire your intervention here. This usurper and foreigner is almost deposed and my people wish for freedom after so many years of domination by foreign peoples. Leave here and we will have no quarrels with you.Otherwise, there will be conflict between us and we will be forced to decide this issue on the battlefield. Signed, Sargon of Assyria

Hail Antiochus, I am the cousin of Archesilaus and I have taken over as satrap in these chaotic times. The barbarians have attempted to take the city from me, but my men are loyal and all attempts have been decisively beaten back. I call upon you to help me defeat this rebel Sargon and his bandits so that I can set this province back to rights once more. I ask your help in this as a fellow Macedonian and fellow satrap of the Argead Empire. Signed, Gorgias of Orestis

Antiochus carefully reads both messages in his room before sending replies to both commanders. After replying to both commanders he issued instructions for his mercenary generals also.

To Sargon.

I will not allow you to operate independently from the Macedonian empire, not only you wish to secede from our the realm but you also insult Alexander's legacy with your foolish actions. You and your native barbarians will be slaughtered on the battlefield, you barbaroi.

I have come to relieve you from these barbarians, we will whack them down. That bandit Sargon and his barbarians have no idea what is coming at them. However there's need to reorganize the political structure of this region in order to prevent future rebellions, once we have defeated these bandits i will negotiate with you over the future of these lands, but rest be assured you have nothing to fear from me, i will always be good to my fellow macedonians. Battle of Nineveh

The forces of Sargon have readied themselves for battle as Gorgias awaits developments securely within the walls of the city. In order to reach Sargon's forces Antiochus' forces will be forced to ford the river at some point, which may even the battle despite the smaller numbers of the Assyrians. Antiochus is free to deploy his men anywhere on his side of the map except within the city itself.

Instructions for Gorgia's army.

- Toxotai are deployed on the walls and are to shoot down as many bandits as they can. Two units of Pantodapoi Phalangitai are also on the wall to guard them if the enemy gets on the wall.
- If no enemy get on the wall then let the pantodapoi phalngitai get back to the gates and deploy along with the regular phalangitai.
- The regular Phalangitai is deployed behind the gates leaving no space for the enemy other than to run into the spears of the macedonians.
- The asiatikoi hippeis is held as reserve in case there are gaps in the line.

Instructions for Antiochus' mercenary army.

- All non cavalry units deploy behind the gates of Shibaniba. They are to rush in the city as fast as possible to reinforce Gorgias garrisson.
- All cavalry units (including elephants) are deployed east of the Hideqel river.
- The mercenary missile units are to reinforce the walls as fast as possible in order to shoot down the enemy from above.
- four units of regular hoplitai are to guard those missile units if the enemy is on the walls.
- the other infantry units divide themselves equally and are to guard the gates and leave the enemy no space to manoeuvre.
- when the enemy hostile forces are beaten back from the city the cavalry units are to cross the river and are to charge the enemy from the rear.
- when this happens the units from the city are to launch an assault on the enemy across the river in order to smash the enemy from the front and the rear, then they will meet up and rout the enemy.

OOC : does that even make sense?, i have come to relieve him from Sargon and he is still neutral? Also i read your previous post as they were going to attack the city rather than preparing to confront me. OK, let's do this again then.

Northern part Pink: All missile units. Northern part

• The missile units cover the advancing infantry units who cross over the river in order to protect them from enemy attacks.
• Once they have crossed the river the missile units will cross the river too and try to harass the enemy as much as possible.
• When that is done the regular infantry will advance upon the enemy forces and clash with them, meanwhile the missile units will deploy behind them.
• Once that is done the infantry tries to push more and more to the center of the enemy, hoping to meet up with the southern part.

Southern part

• The elite hoplites are the first ones to cross the river followed by the cavalry and elephants.
• The elite hoplites try to hold up the enemy infantry units as much as possible leaving the elephants and cavalry the chance to strike the hostile cavalry and missile units.
• Once the cavalry and elephants are done they will attack the enemy forces that are attacking the elite hoplites from the rear.
• Once that is done they will push to the center to meet up with the Northern part.

Once that is done finish the enemy off.

The Battle of Nineveh


The battle begins with the northern force of mercenaries under the Greek Kalleas and Indian Dhana ready their forces to cross the river. Indian longbowmen, Greek archers, slingers, and more missile troops keep up a hail of fire that simply can't be resisted and the Assyrians fail to answer their fire with anyhting except a few weak volleys. Thousands of hoplites and Indian warriors ford the river at speed while their missile units continue to provide cover fire. They manage to successfully cross with few casualties and right after they crash headlong into the Assyrian soldiers who manage to only hold out for a few minutes before the massive numbers of enemy infantry simply wash over them. With the infantry crushed they archers toss down their bows and surrender while the native cavalry flees the field. The northern mercenary forces reforms as it seeks to assist the southern force which was not having such good luck.

The southern force's elite hoplites are the first to attempt the crossing with their commander Deiphobos, but as they entered the water volley after volley of arrows hits them and they have no missile units who can reply in kind. Numerous hoplites are either killed by the arrows or drowned when knocked over into the water. Sargon has decided to personally contest the crossing of the southern force and he leads his Shipri Tukul in a vicious charge just as Deiphobos' elite hoplites are about to come out of the river. The two groups of heavy troops clash and the Assyrians gain the upper hand over the arrow ridden and exhausted hoplites. While their forces clashed Deiphobos and Sargon found each other on the battlefield and their duel ends with a spear through Deiphobos' throat. The hoplites are demoralized by the loss of their commander, but Iason arrives just in time with the Thessalian cavalry and elephants. These reinforcements stymie Sargon's attacks and when the northern force appears in Sargon's rear his force disintegrates. The majority surrender, but a number of the horsemen simply ride off as quickly as their steeds will carry them. Antiochus' forces have won the battle and Gorgias' men open the gates of the city tp him, willing to negotiate now that he had seen Antiochus' power on the field of battle.




Outcome- Decisive Macedonian Victory. Gorgias opens his gates to negotiate terms.

The Mercenary generals enter the city and are greeted by crowds of people throwing rice at them. After the generals, the troops enter the city who are greeted by the population as they secured the city from bandits. One of the generals, Iason, has permission to negotiate on behalf of Antiochus, Satrap of Babylon.

Hail Gorgias, we have driven off the bandits from these lands and have restored peace. I have received instruction from Antiochus in order to negotiate terms, my master requires to handover this lands to him, he wants to organize Assyria and Babylonia into one realm, Mesopotamia. As there can be no divided Egypt, there can be no divided Mesopotamia. However you Gorgias will continue to be important, as you may known one of our generals sadly died on the battlefield, my master offers you to be general in the Mesopotamian army. Meanwhile my master has promised he will economically develop these lands to its maximum so that its people may prosper. What do you say?
