A single rider approaches the castle gates. It can be seen that the rider is a man who is dressed in the brown robes of a septon, though there are tears in it and the bottom is heavily frayed. He carries no sigil, but sheathed on his back is a sword. The man seeks an audience with the master of the castle.

The guards looked at him with suspicion, wary of the stranger that requested to meet their lord. They led him to a closely supervised meeting with the Castellan, ser Jorah Mortimer.
"You a hedge knight?" He said, assuming the man to be one, carrying such a sword and owning a horse. "What is your business here? Perhaps you're searching for food and shelter in offer of your services?" Many hedge knights in the area had already come to Darry, hearing that there might be a call to arms soon.

Martyn felt uneasy as the guards stared at him. He began to wonder if he had overstepped his boundaries, but they ushered him forward and brought him past the gates. Once inside the castle walls, he came down from his horse and followed the guards further into the castle. They led him to Ser Jorah Mortimer, and he immediately went to one knee. "M'lord, I thank you for seeing me." Martyn started to get nervous. Ser Felton was usually the one who spoke with Lords while he stayed behind and watched after the horses. "A knight I am not, m'lord, though I did squire to one before he met his untimely end along the Kingsroad. The past few weeks I have been traveling with a group of smallfolk, who have fallen onto hard times as of late. We were attacked by bandits, and many perished from their blades, others died from their wounds days later." He looked up to Ser Jorah, swallowing dryly.

"M'lord, these people have been left with almost nothing. They are out of food and their wagons are close to ruined. I know the wars have taxed the Riverlands heavily, but I beg you, if can help them in any way, I would be forever in your debt." He fought back tears. "With Winter coming, travel is unwise, so perhaps you could find them homes, and in exchange they could perform labor? It would be for a short time, until Summer comes around again. If you do this, I will swear my sword and my life to your household, and be forever your man."

"A squire looking for a new master then? Well it depends on if your sword is worth the effort... I think we have to test your mettle before doing anything. Attacks on common folk is truly unacceptable and if this pack of yours is willing to work for their shelter and help with the fishing and harvest we might consider taking them in. But that is if your sword is worth it to be taken on as a squire." Ser Mortimer said with command, the young man seemed nervous and scared, bad signs for a warrior but something that might signify loyalty in the future. A trained squire was very valuable indeed, if fed, trained and armored he might give back his cost tenfold in the wars to come. "You can face ser Grafton, if you can hold your own against him we will take you on and you can serve as his squire. He is almost finished with the current one."

Martyn listened to the castellan's reply, and a smile came over his face. "M'lord, you honor me. The others will do as you ask, and they will do it gladly." He was relieved that he had been given this chance, but he started to feel butterflies in his stomach at the prospect of proving himself against this Ser Grafton. Martyn had sparred lightly with Ser Felton, but the knight had been old, and the only real fights he'd been in were against looters and bandits who had little to no armor or weapons, and had no training. To face an actual knight was a different matter completely, but he needed to be strong. Looking to Ser Mortimer, he nodded his head.

"I will face your knight, m'lord." May the Seven grant me strength.

"He's out hunting for the momentum so lets get you fed and clothed. Grafton would not want to face a starved squire, honor would not allow him... Do you posses any armor? Or weapons beyond that sword of yours." The castellan asked with a sly smile.

Martyn breathed a sigh of relief in his mind. Ser Grafton being away gave him more time to get prepared, more time to shake the anxiety that crept in the back of his mind. He felt especially giddy at the thought of a hot meal, and fresh clothes. It seemed an eternity since he had anything other than hard bread and tough salt beef. "I thank you, m'lord. And I shall thank Ser Grafton once he returns, for being such an honorable knight." Martyn then lifted the hem of his robes, revealing a pair of brown roughspun breeches, and covering his torso was a yellowing and stained gambeson. "Not much in the way of armor m'lord, just some things my old master gave me before his passing."

He then reached for his sword and brought it out, holding the flat of the blade in both hands. There were several notches and a the leather grip of worn, but the large sword still looked sturdy. "It may not be castle-forged steel, but it'll do."

"It will surely do, Grafton will be using an equally dull blade." The castellan said, studying the young man. "You can borrow some plate and mail. We would not want to spill more blood than necessary." He waved with his hand and the servants scurried off to the kitchens. "Join us in the dining hall, I'll give you some hints boy." The castellan spoke friendlier this time.

Martyn returned his blade back to it's scabbard, following after Ser Jorah. His stomach growled slightly as they made their way to the kitchen, which he would try to cover with a fake. "Thank you again, m'lord. I'll gladly take any advice from a seasoned knight such as yourself." Martyn's eyes wandered about the castle, admiring the thick, stone walls and the sturdy ceiling. He especially enjoyed the warmth it provided from the cold outside. "What's this Ser Grafton like, anyways?" Hopefully he'd be able to get some clues on any weaknesses he had, and would be able to use them to his advantage.

"Well, he's quite the cautious duelist. Gonna spend a lot of his time behind his big shield and jab out when he feels ready. That is when he is vulnerable..." The castellan nodded to the servants as the food finally arrived. "So I'd suggest some feints, but make it believable or you'll not encourage him to leave his protection. Something that would be risky but rewarding is to allow yourself to take a few hits, act rashly and as if this is the first fight you'll ever have. You might trick him into becoming overconfident and then you'll have a brief moment where he'll drop his guard. If you don't finish ser Grafton quickly enough he'll get a feel for you and beat you with experience and training." The horns blazed for a hunting party returning. "Any more questions before we start?"

Frey was unlike his brother and father in that he did not revel in war. He did not wear a sword, but rather a simple dark blue tunic bearing a small Frye sigil on the left shoulder. "My thanks." He replied "I'll come right to the point. I've been offere din marriage by my Father to the Vyprens of Stillfen, but they have rejected our offer. I spent some time contemplating what my next move should be, maybe to become a maester of the citadel, or join the Night's Watch. When I was reminded that your Ladyship was a widow, I thought I might be able to propose an offer of marriage and solidify an alliance between our houses. A castle needs a lord, and a son needs a father, even if it is an adopted one. I will teach him what I know of the sword and lance, but also exercise his mind."

Martyn listened intently to each of Ser Jorah's words, repeating them in his head over and over. When the food arrived, he wanted to dig right in, but he remembered that a knight must manners, so he took his time eating. As the horns blared, the same fuzzy, lightness in his stomach returned. He took a deep breath to regain his nerves. Martyn stared directly into the castellan's eyes. "Just one, m'lord. Where do I get dressed?"
