Cataphract elephants own everything. In combination with a good army composition there ain't no stoping them.

It's a fantasy unit really - but then so are super-soldier praetorians in the first place!

Which should really be better? A well turned out, polished, well fed, pampered, wine-swilling, arrogant and over-paid home guard in the nice safe capital - or a lean, hungry, continuously trained, disciplined legionary facing angry Germans and other nasty savage barbarian types who want to kill him?

Now, a single unit of experienced legionnaires serving as the Early Praetorian cohort to guard the army General - that's fine. But a 'legion' of pretty guards (Late Praetorians) - I'll take my lean and hungry any time - as did the Romans it seems!

Only in the loosest sense. My Praetorian cohorts never engage in battle. I keep them hanging out in Rome, and use them to step on any bandit armies that arise in the area.

Spartan Promachoi.
They are even a lot better than the Spartan Hoplites wich are already amazing.
I build one Army of those Promachoi and used them as Elite Units, they would always go in first and massacre everyone.

I like the Syracuse Royal Guard. They are tanks with nicely designed armour and pretty cloaks. Love the Trident symbol on their shields.
