Just downloaded it now. I am going to check it out tomorrow for a couple of hours. Also I have a question. When you say 'not saved game compatible', I'm assuming that means you can not save a campaign and come back to it later??

Titus, you asked me in a pm after the Baltic (new) units. They will be part in a later version.

But if you wanna play with them in custom battles now, just delete the code no_custom from the following line in the edu

attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, command, frighten_foot, no_custom

They are available for HRE, Denmark and Poland then.

I can't get enough of this. I started this morning and have been playing for hours. Mostly I am patiently waiting to gain more variety in troops and units. I already raised an army of near 1000 men and beat the hell out of some rebellious Scots in the woods. Great game...

Look out if you have conquered Stirling ... there is a chance to be crowned as 'King of Scotland' then, assuming you are playing the patched version 0.60.

It's great, but there is still a mistake in the Greek unit names! Try this for grammatical correctness:

Instead of Varrangioi Tagma, try Varangion Tagma.

Tagma ton Varangion (Tagma of the Varangians?) and Tagma ton Exkoubiton (Tagma of the Exkoubitors?) should appear in the next patch. I was still undecided when the patch was put together.

Well, both Tagma ton Varangion and Varangion Tagma amount to the same thing (there is a tiny difference in sense - the former means 'Battalion of the Varangians', whereas the latter means 'Varangian Battalion', pretty much), though I think that the latter is slightly neater. As for the Exkoubitors, I think that, since it's third declension, it should be Tagma ton Exkoubitoron.

The next patch will be released before christmas, for sure, and hopefully we are able to have the final Early Era release ready at the end of the year (alternative within first 3 weeks of january).

I must say I have a greater understanding of classical Latin than that of Greek. Would there be a word which would compare to our English 'levy' or 'irregular', which you could whack in front of the current Spatharion Taxis


Peltastoi - Peltast troops, lightly armoured missle infantry.
Psiloi - Light unarmoured archer.
Toxotai - Armoured archer.
Thematikoi Peripoloi - Levy/Irregular militia unit.
Pezoi Kontaratoi - Unarmoured spearmen with shield, 1st tier 'thematic' troops.
Themata Kontaratoi - Armoured spearmen with shield, 2nd tier 'thematic' troops.
Hoplitai - Heavily armoured spearmen with shield, 3rd tier 'thematic' troops.
Pezoi Spatharion - Unarmoured swordsmen with shield, 1st tier 'thematic' troops.
Themata Spatharion - Armoured swordsmen with shield, 2nd tier 'thematic' troops.
Skoutatoi - Heavily armoured swordsmen with shield, 3rd tier 'thematic' troops.

Menaulatoi - Strong infantrymen armed with the fearsome 'Menaulion'. See description below.

Pronoiarion Allagion/Stratiotai - Sword armed heavy cavalry, lighter than fearsome 'Kataphractoi'.
Hippo Toxotai - Armoured horse archers.

Menaulatoi: Heavy infantry armed with a hybrid Pike/Falx weapon (Called the Menaulion), the menaulion was very thick spear like weapon, taken whole from young oak or cornel saplings and capped by a long blade (45-50 cm). Menaulatoi could use their weapons to form a phalanx as use the emaulion as an effective weapon for cleaving infantrymen, cavalrymen and horses alike. The menaulatoi had to be used by especially strong infantrymen (called Menaulatoi after their weapon) and was often deployed against enemy Kataphraktoi and other heavy cavalry.

I hope to see Turkish foot soldier(or another names Turkish heavy infantry; uses bow and sword) at next patch. Arap infantries and another light infantries are reduce Turkish defence. I am glad to see Turkish Names in game.

Hmm, Seljuk-Turks have the Saracen Heavy Infantry (sword and spear) in their reigns. Anyway, Turks are coded with a lot of advantages to give the Seljuk AI help to get their historical goals.
Their main advantage unit-wise though are their strong archers, which also are capable in melee (Seljuk Horsearchers, Turkomans, Saracen Archers). This kind of warefare is historical for them: 'hit and run'.

If you would play another faction, you would see how strong they are

Um, how do I get the 0.60 to install? I've tried doing what the basic instructions say, and I can see that the files have arrived where I asked them to go, but the game itself is still 0.50, which leads me to wonder whether I even installed the 0.51 patch properly...

Help please...
