It was late one night as Maegor rode across the verdant fields of the Reach. With the greatsword, Blackfyre, hidden underneath baggage that lined either side of the mount, he had hoped to gain access to Lannisport on the other side of Westeros and leave the Seven Kingdoms before for the Free Cities. With the victorious Targaryens now looking to secure their ultimate triumph and Blackfyre within his possession, he knew he wasn't safe at Summerhall, no matter how isolated it was. Yet as he rode along some of the more local paths in the Reach, Maegor came across the sight of an encampment. He gulped for a moment, wondering if it was an attachment of the Royal Army, but even in the darkness of the night, the amber glow of the torches and fires illuminated the golden skull standard of the Golden Company. Seven be praised! Surely these Westerosi exiles could help him get off the continent. They had connections with the Free Cities and were surely planning to cast off for their home.

Maegor rode up to the sentries of the encampment. As he rode forth, his eyes noticed the signs of battle. Dornish banners littered the area as well as Dornish steeds and soldiers. Dorne was in the Reach? That wasn't good, he thought. After glancing at the battlefield for a moment, the Targaryen then continued to ride towards the entrance of the camp. He lowers his hood, revealing his face to the guards on duty.

I am Maegor Brightfyre, Knight of Summerhall, by the gracious intentions of His Grace, the late Maelys, the Last Blackfyre. Who is in command?

The scene of the battle was a massacre, the battlefield littered with dead Dornishmen: professionals, mercenaries, and lords all the same. There were scores of heads mounted on spike, and dozens of men hanging from the tree trees by their necks. The Essosi guard on duty was a spidery man, all gaunt skin and bones. Pale skin, and bent yellow teeth. Tom. The man answered with a wiry grin. Tom, One-Eye. He scratched his scraggily beard. And you're that Targaryen fella, aren't ya? He questioned.

Maegor sighs, hearing that name once more. The decision to leave Summerhall and take up the sword of Blackfyre made him a Targaryen no longer. His eyes look at the Essosi guard on station and nods his head.

I am indeed he. However, I am no longer a Targaryen... you may call me Ser Brightfyre or Maegor if you so desire, sentry. When I bent the knee to Maelys, I gave up my Targaryen name and claim.

Without another word said, Maegor would snap the reins of his horse as it trots into the Golden Company tent, moving towards the largest of the tents where the Valyrian believed that One-Eyed Tom was presently at. Even as his horse trotted, he felt the heavy movement of the sheathed greatsword, Blackfyre, as it moved against the body of the horse, occasionally the pommel tapping his foot. He dismounted his horse outside of the tent and reached into the baggage, pulling out the long parcel that hid the sword within his arms. To be truthful of the sword's fate could easily take Maegor's head off, but he had to show strength and honesty by openly declaring to one of the few remaining Blackfyre supporters his intentions.

The guard shrugged letting the man pass, he wouldnt get the jump on his master. Brightfyre was met by a burly figure, seated within the largest tent in the camp. His eye rose to meet Maegor's gaze, he had a single eye in use, a deep forest green. Brightfyre. His voice boomed, as his other dead eye came into view - blackened to a putrid shade with congealed blood, adorned with a crimson ring about his pupil. Come here as an exile, or a messenger for your relatives? The man's beard was as blue as ever, and grew thicker still everyday.

Maegor, holding the large and long parcel in his hands, approaches Spotted Tom. He had only seen him on the battlefield and around the camp, but never spoken to him. He walks up to a table, setting the parcel down.

I have been long estranged from my family, Tom. I doubt they know I am even alive. I am an exile, like those within this camp... I became an exile when I bent the knee to Maelys. I became an exile when I commanded troops at Wendwater against Aerys. And now, especially with what I carry, I am more of an exile than I ever was. I am more estranged than ever before from my family. Yet, I am more confident that I ever was in my life.

Without another word, the Valyrian reaches towards the folded leather that disguised the very prize that any Targaryen and Lord would seek after. He pulls the rope that holds the parcel together and allows it to unfold before Tom's eyes. The glittering sight of Valyrian steel would be illuminated by the glow of fires around the tent as Maegor removes the sheath from Blackfyre. He sets down the sheath beside the blade as it rested upon the table before both Tom and Maegor. His purple eyes then turn to pirate.

You and I both know that my relatives would do anything to gain this sword. Even if it meant killing their own kin just to touch its pommel.

The sword of Kings.. you ing westerosi and your gods damned symbols. Tom muttered, good eye inspecting the valyrian steel blade. So you're the one who took it off the field. He questioned with a grin, knowing now why his own men had failed to do so. So what would you have us do? He questioned darkly. We're bloodied, beaten. Defeating the Dornish means nothing, we must escape east - this blade wont change our course of retreat.

Maegor looks down at the sword, before slowly picking it up by the large pommel and examining the blade carefully. Once more, a spark, similar but far more fiery than before, was felt within him as Blackfyre was taken in his hands. He gazes at the sword for a moment longer before turning his eyes to Tom. Within his violet eyes, there was a darkness lurking within Maegor's gaze. He would set the sword back down before speaking to the pirate.

I had to take the sword from the field of battle, Tom. For all my life, my kin looked down upon me all because of my father's reputation and the name given to me at birth. They saw the spawn of the mad Aerion and the lurking shadow of Maegor the Cruel... they never gave me a chance because of those reasons. I was an infant, an innocent babe in arms, but I was turned down. I lived among the commoners much of my life and was offered charity as a sign of acknowledgement that I existed. Like that would be enough to make me be their friend. Now I have what they want and they will have to crawl on their bellies like worms to get it.

There was an anger that boiled deep within Maegor all of a sudden. It was pent up rage, rage towards the very realm that had looked down him. He was not his father, he was not the next Maegor the Cruel... yet they treated him as if he were. His royal uncle, Aegon, and cousin, Jaehaerys, had given him charity out of the sake of what they called 'helping their kin.' He never asked for their pity, never asked for their charity. The Valyrian had chosen this life and, now, he chose to turn his back on his family, his kin. That moment occurred the moment Brightfyre took up the sword, Blackfyre, and rode away from the battlefield.

We need to find an allied port or somewhere we can gain enough ships to leave Westeros. Aerys is victorious and, with that, our list of Westerosi allies surely. We have to leave soon though and fast... the Dornish know we are here and they will surely tell my cousin of our location. Do we have any valuable prisoners left, Tom?

Aye, that we do. He answered with a laugh. Haven't killed them all just yet. He added upon further thought. A couple Westermen and a trout fresh from the last battle, there'd be another but I cut Lord Yronwood or something or other in two with my shaft. He laughed, his blue braids dancing. I don't know crap about this land, all I know is we've got to get gone.. He eyed Blackfyre. Where should we march? He questioned, eyebrow raised.

Maegor would ponder for a moment before looking out at the encampment. The host still had a relatively large composition, over ten thousand at least. They would need ships that the Golden Company would crew and utilize as transports. Within their reach, there were four major ports; Oldtown, King's Landing, Storm's End and Lannisport. Oldtown was closer to Essos, but further south. The Targaryen didn't know where the Dornish had retreated to, but his best guess was further south into the Reach. King's Landing was out of the question for obvious reasons. Storm's End was up in the air, but too close for comfort. The army would have to march over the mountains in order to get there and it could be taken by the Royalists by the time they managed. That left only one possibility.

The only sensible port would be Lannisport in the Westerlands. We could take the Ocean Road and make best speed for the port city. However, we would need to avoid being sighted and that could make this journey tricky as we would have to pass by House Crakehall on the Westerland-Reach border before continuing north towards Lannisport.

The Valyrian thinks some more, remembering the lessons his mother had given him about the regions of the Reach and Westerlands. Maegor then turns to Tom.

There are other options though. There are three houses within the Reach along the Ocean Road; House Oakheart of Old Oak, their vassal, House Westbrook of Westbrook and House Stackhouse of Catswold, who owes direct allegiance to House Tyrell. Each of these three locations are able to give us a number of ships which could be gained by a show or threat of force. However, we may be forced to leave some of the Golden Company if we do this. Majority should be able to leave for Essos, while the few remain. We could try to secure ships from Manderford however, which is just south of Westbrook. Adding the ships in from that location could ensure the entire company gets away.

(OOC: If we got the first three, its 120 ships, so 12,000 troops leave with a few thousand remaining. If we get Manderford too, it would be 160 ships, so everyone gets away.)

I don't trust those ing Westermen. He began bitterly. If they'd the balls to fight with us before we wouldnt have to flee this . He spat, the wad of fluid was discolored and foul smelling. They wont help us now, not even if I threatened to shove a lance up their lord's ass. His grin melted into a grimace. Old Oak it is, them and their lords will either give up their ships - or I roast their corpses over an open flame and take them. Either way we'll get to Essos one way or another. From there the real struggle will begin.Rebuilding this company wont be easy, but these are some of the best men you'll meet in this world or the next - and after I split that Dornish Prince in two spirits are high.

Maegor looks out at the Golden Company's tents. Tom was right; the defeat at King's Landing and the loss of Maelys Blackfyre would have taken a toll on the morale of the soldiers, but the victory over the Dornish at Tumbleton stabilized it. Any victory, no matter how large or small, was a victory nonetheless. Brightfyre then returns his gaze to One-Eyed Tom.

If we can secure ships from Old Oaks, Catswold, Westbrook and Manderford, we should be able to save majority, if not all, of the Golden Company. We will have to work fast though. The Disputed Lands will surely allow us to rebuild our forces, plenty of sellsword companies to war with and force them to join us as well as plenty of areas to recruit. It won't be easy indeed, but we have managed to save most of the Company, and that should help us immensely.

A comatose Derrick Fossoway awakes on his tent. Tom is notified the recovery of the fellow member of the Band of Nine. He has little to no memories of the battle fought.

Tom enters Derrick's tent once word got to him of his recovery. The first thing Fossoway will notice is Tom's new dead eye, useless, discolored, and surrounding skin scarred. I hear you're awake for brains. The bearded giant remarked with a wolfish grin, as he eyed his companion.

He was pale and exhausted, lying on his bed. The head was a mess of bandages and blood, his red hair wet by feverish sweat. However, he looked much better than the previous days. He tried to lean forward, but his head was too heavy, he collapsed on the pillows again.

    "Oh, Seven Hells!"

    Fossoway looked to Tom.

"What happened to you, goddammit? How many days...?"

He barely remembered the battle had been fought.

A Crownlander knight, more to the point his blade. He answered matter of factly. But I wouldn't be talking, when you've been you're bed the past month. He shook his head, this wouldn't be easy. We lost outside Kingslanding Fossoway, Maelys was slain - I was blinded - and they dragged your corpse of the field. He sighed, braids jiggling as he did so. The Dornish lied in wait on the rout of our retreat.. but I shoved a sword so far up their prince's ass they ran all the way back to Sunspear.

    "Two-Heads is dead?!"

    He grinned wolfishly.

"Those bastards will pay... Someday. At least we brought down some bastards with us. The Prince of Dorne you say? Seven Hells, what a good kill!"

He spats on the ground. A bloody phlegm. He had lost several teeth from the blow that left him comatose

Aye. He laughed. Sad to say, we wont have his smiling second head to keep us company anymore. His smile turned. Aye, we couldn't all very well take a break pretty boy. But the Dornish are long gone now and the Kings men far behind us, and its a straight shot to Old Oak. There we'll empress the fishmen boats and sail back home to regroup.
