A raven arrives from King's Landing, from Donnel Lefford.

    "Lord Mathis Caron,

I agreed at our last meeting to keep you informed of any movements within the Reach that might threaten either of our positions. I write to you now to inform you that an army under Lord Rowan, so-called Marshal of the Reach, has openly besieged Cider Hall. The King intends to raise an army to retake the keep and bring Lord Rowan to justice. I am at King's Landing and will likely join the King's own forces.

That they move against my own keep suggests they may move against Horn Hill in the near future.

    Lord Donnel Lefford"

Mathis reads the note carefully three time. Tyrell to move against the king so openly so soon? However the information was certainly valuable. He could be mobilized a ready for Tyrell's strike before it came. Reaching forward he garbed a pen ad ink pot sighing resignedly. He had a very long night a head of him.

    Lord Caron,

I shall require a representative of your House to attend the summit of Stormlords at Storm's End. Otherwise, I give you leave to defend your lands from any enemies. I shall inform you as to where we march.

Young Mace Tyrell, nominal Lord Paramount of the Reach itself, found Nightsong to be limited. As a castle it was stout and defensible, but compared to Highgarden it was a backwater: it had only one garden; it was mountainous and thus cold and the views were limited; it had only dozens of rooms instead of hundreds; the local 'town' was barely the size of a single of Highgarden's districts; members of House Caron were the only real people of noble bearing around on a daily basis; and worst of all, Mace was utterly powerless!

In Highgarden he'd had a hand in decision making, got to sit on the councils, hear petitions, attend to matters of great importance. Here? Ragged mountain men complained about issues with goat herding and everyone was always worried about the bloody Dornish. In Highgarden he'd had an entire suite of rooms to himself, access to the cuisine from everywhere in Westeros and beyond, a host of servants and various tutors. Here he had one room, mostly ate of local produce and relied on the Maester and Master at Arms for everything educational.

So, so limited. And for seven years he'd be confined here! All because of his power-mad uncles, having to pick a fight with that Lefford fellow and his royal benefactor.

But Mace knew things. He knew Rowan was a full conspirator in all that. He knew the Hightowers and Redwynes had abandoned his uncle after King's Landing. He knew the sycophants at Highgarden had encouraged the entire bloody thing.

There would be sweeping changes if he ever got back there. People would answer for their actions.

And so it was that he sat down to breakfast, again. In this excuse for a great hall, again. Eating whatever the hell this slop was, again.

Lord Steffon Baratheon arrives at Nightsong after his journey back from King's Landing, leading a party of riders that halt before the gates of that stout and redoubtable keep.

    Ooc Mace

A servant comes down from the solar to take the young man to Lord Carons study.

    Ooc Steffon

He his let in to the keep and escorted to the study where Mathis Caron awaits. Upon seeing his liege lord Mathis stands and bows formally.

"My lord what brings you to Nightsong today."

Entering the study, a grin crosses the tall Stormlord's youthful face as he sees lord Caron.

"Mathis, it is good to see you well. The family is just as hale and hearty, I trust?"

Mace takes a last mouthful of the breakfast before him and follows the servant off towards the solar. Arriving there, he is ushered inside.

"Lord Caron." he said curtly in greeting.

Ooc I'm handling this on my phone so forgive the short replies.

    Steffon

Mathis takes a seat and summons a servant to bring wine.

"My family is doing very well he says. My son is growing to be a suitable heir for Nightsong."

    Mace

He gestures for the young Lord to take a seat across from him.

"How have you found your stay in Nightsong so far Mace?"

"I see it as it is, Lord Caron," said Mace dryly, "A prison mandated by the King for the sins of my family. I pray my stay here goes quickly and easily."

Steffon nods, and takes a seat opposite his vassal. His own sons were growing, albeit they were still very young.

"That is good to hear. How is the Tyrell boy? I hear that he is now your ward."
Baratheon was curious as to Aerys' sudden show of clemency towards the young Mace. He had expected the boy to be stripped of his lands, or even killed. The thought of such cruelty from his friend had troubled him.

    Mace

Mathis sighs rubbing his temples ,

"I admit this ended in a manner neither you or I wished, but we must make the best of it. I had hoped that by putting you in my care the mad bastard would nor further shatter the Reach but it is more than my head is worth not to try to make the best of this."

    Steffon

"The boy is understandably frustrated. His home was shattered and he was shipped off to be a prisoner in some foreign land." He sighs "The king makes more problems and leaves the rest of us to sort them out."

"The Reach is a poisoned chalice. Aerys gives us lands and lords that will only rise against us at the slightest provocation." Baratheon grumbled, as he gulped down some wine. "I see no rationale in what has transpired in the capital, and it troubles me to think that Aerys brought the Reach conflict upon himself."

Mathis laughes bitterly, "Tarly awnsered my call once, but I can't help but feel that only made him feel resentful. He helped in seeing his home furthur diminished and eventually his pride will overwhelm his sense of honor. The way I see it is we have an oppertunities here to make an ally of the Tyrell boy. I think we should take it what will happen if Aerys in his madness comes for another kingdom next and just keeps cutting them up one by one until nothing is left to defy him?" He pauses taking a swig of wine. "I don't intend to see the Stormlands next on the menu."

"Nor will it be, Mathis. You have my word." Baratheon replied, warily. Treason seemed to be uttered in every hall from that of the highest lord to the lowest knight, which did not bode well for the King or his rule.
"Mace Tyrell will hopefully be a stepping stone to restoring the realm to how it should be, rather than this carved up mess of disloyal kingdoms."

"I marched at your call and will continue to, but I can't help but feel we would have been better served to leave Aerys to his fate." He sighs, "if half of what I heard Aerys did to them was true than Tyrell had every right to rise."

"That may be so. But we are loyal servants of His Grace nonetheless. After all, he is the King." Gazing at Mathis, he grimaced, knowing that perhaps what Caron spoke of was true. Aerys had brought war, which breeds itself.

Mathis shakes his head, "You are sworn to the King, but my oaths are to you. I march where you say my lord not where the king orders me." He sighs "If that means I march for the king again then so be it, but it will be at your order not the Kings."
