    Yronwood, Seat of House Yronwood

Yronwood castle has stood against invaders from the north for thousands of years, forming a bulwark that defends Dorne via the Stone Way, or as it is more commonly known, the Boneway. It is a fortified pass that runs through the Red Mountains, and is the first major obstacle to any would be conqueror. Numerous castles are located along the stretch, with Yronwood being the last line of defence. It would take months for an army to force its way through the pass, let alone take Yronwood itself.

The land around Yronwood itself is rich and fertile, a contrast to the sandy deserts further into the peninsula. The castle is surrounded by high valleys and rolling foothills, well supplied with timber and valuable deposits of iron, tin and silver. This wealth led them to become the most powerful Kings in Dorne before the arrival of the Rhoynar, and it is clear that it is still present to this day, partly lending to the current influence of the Yronwoods.

    Regional bonuses:

In addition, if an army besieges a castle without a fleet blockading that city, do a d20% roll for further attrition.

    A raven arrives:

    Warden of the Boneway,

Your line once pronounced bows. Oaths of allegiance. You spilt blood by my ancestor's side. I am the heir of the Black Dragon, Daemon Blackfyre himself, and now here I am to claim my birthright. I will handsomely reward all those who swear to serve and support me faithfully. Why do women rule when there are men to wear the crown and wield the sword.

In the Light of the Seven,

Maelys I, First of His Name, etc...

Cletus was the binary opposite of his warlike brother. Fair haired and green eyed, he was tall and lanky rather than muscular. He had little interest in war or battle, preferring music, horse-riding and reading. And now, he was the Lord of Yronwood. Surrounded by his ambitious sisters, the young Lord of Yronwood did not feel comfortable in his current surroundings, to say the least. Awkwardly perched on his throne, the young Lord commanded the gates to be opened, and Lord Dayne was received into the great hall.

Lord Dayne advanced at good pace towards the throne. He wore indigo-colored robes and a silken mantle to cover himself from the sands of Dorne. His hair was carefully combed backwards and his mustache, oiled. Aran's violet eyes stare at Lord Yronwood, suddenly he found himself as the oldest and most experienced lord remaining in Dorne. Dayne smiles warmly and nods as salute.

"My Lord Yronwood, I bring you the condolences for the death of your brother. I lost few relatives in that unfortunate encounter"

He stands before the throne, hands resting on the hip. His riding boots were made of fine leather and his belt buckle was made of silver. The dagger on the scabbard had a diamond on the pommel and the brooch on the shoulder was inlaid with a large black diamond.

"Long life and blessings, Lord Cletus. And shall friendship reign between Starfall and Yronwood, greatest castles of Dorne"

    "Yes, um..."
Cletus shifted awkwardly in his seat, whilst his eldest sister shot him a hawkish glare. Recovering his composure, he cleared his throat and responded in a voice that had only just become a man's.
"Welcome to Yronwood, Lord Dayne. I thank you for your condolences."
"What brings you to Yronwood, your Lordship?" Gwyneth asked sweetly, her cool blue eyes smiling along with her lips.

Ah, a smart one! The boy is probably too young or worthless.

"My Lady, I presume you are Gwyneth, fair maiden of Yronwood"

    He bows gallantly.

"In these times of loss and hardships we must be together, be closer to each other in friendship and kin"

    Dayne smiles again.

"I hereby introduce you to my daughter"

He moves sideways and his retainers open ranks, revealing a woman. She looked at Yronwood calmly. The young Dayne was beautiful as the morning, not only she had the fair skin of her Drinkwater mother but also her blond hair. But, more importantly, she has the haunting and charming violet eyes of Dayne. Her figure is comely and lean, her riding attire was revealing. She bows before Lord Yronwood.

"Her mother was sadly a second cousin of mine and the marriage got anulled, but she's the flesh of my flesh. My blood, my daughter"

Dayne smiled even more openly. His teeth were perfect and square.

"What a better way to ciment our friendship than marriage, Lord Yronwood?"

Cletus leaned forward as the young Dayne was presented, and offered a slight smile. Gwyneth looked at her brother, eyebrow raised, watching as his green eyes kept stealing glances at the Lady Dayne.

"Um, yes Lord Dayne, I heartily agree with your offer of marriage. It would be an honour to wed your fair daughter."

Gwyneth gave a slight smirk to her sister, Allyria, who silently mocked Cletus and his manner of speaking. Their brother didn't seem to notice.

But Dayne did. His eyes smile as he replies:

"Your words rejoice my old poor heart, Lord Yronwood"

He grabs his daughter's hand, who looks akwardly uncomfortable with his touch. After all he had declared her a bastard. Aron pretends to be moved, even shedding a lonesome tear, like one of those monstrous lizards from the Neck.

"We shall thus join our houses in marriage. My fair daughter, Alyse, shall be wed to your lordship whenever you decide"

    He winks.

"Maybe thirteen days from now, the twentieth day of this month. A thrice blessed day"

Cletus shuffled slightly, rising from his throne and slowly striding towards the lady Dayne. Bowing respectfully to her, he offered a gentle smile. Not ruggedly handsome like his brother, his soft features had more of an effeminate attractiveness about them.

"My lady. It is a pleasure to meet with you. I hope we shall be fast married."

    Cletus knew his sisters would probably be mocking him ceaselessly behind his back. Thus, with a grin, he turned to Lord Dayne;

"Do you know of any eligible men for my sisters, Lord Dayne? I believe it is high time they themselves are wed. I hear the old Lord of Hellholt is unmarried."

Allyria ceased her mockery, and Gwyneth's smile died. Instead, it was replaced with a harsh scowl that was copied by her sister.

Lord Hellholt was as old and smelly as the sulfur pits around his worthless castle. Aran found the situation amusing, but he managed to remain composed and calm.

"I do wish with all my heart that you both shall be married soon enough"

That wench of his second wife would be happy. Her daughter Lady Yronwood, not bad.

"Lord Uller is unfortunately infirm, but there are many men befitting their noble birth in our great Princedom"

He smiled. The old brat of Uller had fathered a bastard last year... he would treat those Yronwoods accordingly. The threat wasn't void.

"Like my cousin Ser Davos, Sword of the Morning or some of my wife's relatives"

His wife was the daughter of the late Lord Fowler of Skyreach.

ooc: One thing, can we do a roll to see if one of my vassals has an unmarried Lord? Unless you prefer to not marry one of your sisters to a NPC. Maybe, we could look for a non-lordly character who you can sign and use somehow in your rp.

    IC:
"I would be happy to foster growing ties with your noble house, Lord Dayne."
Cletus said, with a smile, his confidence growing slightly after silencing his sisters.
"Is marriage all that brought you here to Yronwood, Lord?"

Lady Dayne inspected her would-be husband carefully. At least he was young.

"If so, I will arrange a meeting between Lord Fowler and your Lordship. As my wife's half-brother he will surely be fond of an alliance with your house. I will also consider a potential union with my cousin"

    Lord Dayne stroke his beard.

"Not everything that led me here is joyful as the marriage. The defeat at the hands of the sellswords shows the need to change how this Princedom is ruled. Our Princess must hear our pleas. Moreso, now she is a widow and needs our firm hand and counsel as his foremost vassals. What could she do without us?"

He smiled again, but this smile meant something else.

How can the Princess rule without the consent of her vassals? Unforgivable.

"My brother was valiant and mighty... But he was not a great thinker. He was the kind of man who would follow blindly into battle and war."

Cletus replied warily, watching Lord Dayne with his careful green eyes.

"What pleas would you direct to our noble Princess, Lord Dayne? After the death of her mighty husband and honourable brother, I have heard it spoken that she is seen less than before."

"Considering the current state of things, we have to reconsider our policy towards our... northern neighbors. Also, we should have a share in government, she might be impaired with the sorrow of her loss; Mother have mercy on Ser Beren's soul"

He did the sign of the seven-pointed star on his chest. Piously, or at least seemingly so. His violet eyes stared calmly at Lord Yronwood.

"Rhoynar might think otherwise, but women need men by their side to rule"

Eddard had pleaded for days for his father to let him on this journey. After all, the lad was only 17 and Yronwood was kingdoms away from Karhold. This was possibly the farthest south any northman has yet gone. The banners of Karstark were met with different looks at each step Eddard took. By the time he reached Yronwood, his horse almost died three times, he himself almost four. He didn't expect success at the end of the journey, but it was an epic sightseeing tour of the kingdoms nonetheless. If in the end he did return with an exotic dornish wife, it would be the envy of his fellow northmen.

And so, Eddard stood at the gates of Yronwood, asking for an audience with the lord.

Cletus was cautious of Dayne. He was young, but not foolish, and considered his words carefully before putting them to use.

"Indeed, Lord Dayne, my family follows the same principals as the Andals and First Men. Rhoynish customs of a woman ruling have never been welcomed wholeheartedly within the Boneway."

    ---

Eddard was brought in to see the young lord Cletus, who leant forward in curiosity as the rather foreign Northman entered the hall. He did not think he had seen anyone so pale in his life. Beside him sat his two sisters, equally as curious in the newcomer.
