There was once a dream called Rome.
It could be only be ... whispered, it was so fragile.
I am afraid it won't last until winter.

What if Rome's plague was never brought upon a peaceful world? What if other people became antiquity's new usurpers?
What shall the name of those people be? You decide .

P.S. If you have any interesting saves with any other faction than Rome, share it with us !

Well if there was no Rome I guess Carthage would have flourished and be the major Empire of the Mediterean.

Maybe Gauls would have had a better chance to flourish.

Also, since there would be no Rome, maybe Dacians would have kept and expand their seat of power.

Or the Macedonians would've risen again, maybe Ptolemaic Egypt. Not to say that history is deterministic, but it seemed that one of these major powers would've expanded in the power vacuum. Of course the Phoenician descendents were a lot more trade oriented, while Rome's rather uniquely militaristic society fueled their need/want for conquest.

    Hard to say.

Sadly Carthage probably wouldn't take up the mantle. Maybe. If Hannibal managed to beat the Romans, I have no doubt he would've brought a golden age to Carthage. Of course that's assuming he isn't bankrupted after his exploits in Italy or assassinated by the Carthaginian senate.

Considering how they tried to conquer Sicily for two centuries and to no avail, they are hardly candidates for dominance. And Barcids would have most probably parted ways with the rotten oligarchic state to found their own kingdom, they were way too energetic to be on a leash forever.

I would've assume that the Barcids simply take over Carthage after a successful campaign in Italy. By the middle of that war the Barcid trio were by far the best military thinkers Carthage had to offer. I don't think Carthage would offer much resistance at all.

The senate no doubt wouldn't stand a chance on the field of battle. But sadly talented commanders were destroyed by political intrigue far too often in all times. Especially since Barcids don't seem like people who would build pyramids of opponents heads like Sulla Felix did.

The persian empire would undoubtedly have had dominated at least the eastern mediterranean especially since they've risen in our timeline but ended up stopped on a constant clash with Rome.
No Rome ---> more persian dominance.
